The Spanish sports club Club Gimnàstic de Tarragona , also known for short as Nàstic , is based in the Catalan city of Tarragona . The football division currently plays in the Segunda División .
history
Nàstic was founded as a gymnastics club in Tarragona in 1886 . The soccer division was added in 1914. After winning the championship in the third division in 1945, the club was preparing to complete the march into the first division. As a newcomer, the club achieved a respectable third place, which entitled to the relegation round. The opponent was Espanyol Barcelona . The decision was to be made in just one game, which was played in Gijón . The game ended 0-0, which meant that a week later there was a replay in the same place. This time Espanyol won 3-0 with ease. A year later, Nàstic then made the rise. At that time, the club managed to sign many seasoned players from the first division, and also had a well-known coach in Juan José Nogués (former national goalkeeper) who had good contacts.
The first season went very well. The newcomer was never in danger of relegation and ended up seventh among 14 teams. A famous date in the club's history is January 11, 1948, when the team from Tarragona celebrated a 3-1 victory over Real Madrid at the recently inaugurated Santiago Bernabéu Stadium . This was the first home loss ever for the Royal in this stadium. With Francisco Peralta, the newcomer was also the top scorer.
In the 1948/49 season, Nàstic was ninth. It must be said, however, that Tarragona was in fifth place for a long time (matchdays 10 to 21) and only finished ninth because the last six games were all lost.
However, this should be the harbinger for the following season. The last season of the first division up to this season ended in disaster. After five match days you were still well in the race with sixth place and only one defeat. But the only defeat with 1:10 at FC Barcelona was all the more obvious. After the fifth game day, suddenly nothing worked. With 1:10 you went down in Vigo and five times you should lose 1: 5, again 0: 9 and once 0: 7. This season ended in penultimate place but conceded 99 goals in 26 games. Nevertheless, the club was able to compete in the relegation. But here too the defense was like a torso and the 3: 6 against CD Alcoyano meant relegation. As a result, many players left the club, which was then relegated to the third division after three seasons.
For the next 50 years, the traditional club shuttled between the second and third division. The club's current stadium, Nou Estadi de Tarragona , opened on February 2, 1972. After advancing to the second division in 2004 with seventh place succeeded in the following season, the surprising return to the first division as second in the table. In the 2006/07 season , the team only reached 20th and last place and so rose again to the Segunda División . In the 2011/12 season took place as Table even the descent into the Segunda División B .
