Biskupice (German Biskupitz ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic . It is located 14 kilometers southeast of Moravská Třebová and belongs to the Okres Svitavy .

geography

Biskupice is located at the western foot of the Kamenná hora (550 m) in the Malá Haná ( Little Hanna ) at the transition from the Boskowitz furrow to the Drahaner Bergland . The village lies on the right side of the Jevíčka on Biskupický potok. The railway line from Česká Třebová to Boskovice passes in the west. The train station is one kilometer outside the village.

Neighboring towns are Chornice in the north, Vrážné , Březinky and Nectava in the northeast, Kladky in the east, Zálesí in the southeast, Jaroměřice in the south, Jevíčko in the southwest and Víska u Jevíčka in the west.

history

In the Drahaner Bergland east of the village there was a prehistoric fortification at the place "Hrubé Kolo". Biskupice was first mentioned in 1267 as the property of the Olomouc bishopric . In 1361, Margrave Johann Heinrich acquired the village from the Olomouc Chapter in exchange for Velký Týnec and had Plankenberk Castle built in the mountains on the Nectava. After the castle fell in desolation at the transition from the 14th to the 15th century, the Biskupice fortress was built as the new manor.

In 1541, Messrs. Spetl von Pruditz had the fortress converted into a Renaissance castle. In the 18th century, under the Kolowrat von Liebstein family, it was converted into a baroque palace in two stages . After the abolition of patrimonial Biskupitz became an independent municipality in 1850. In 1874 Lamoral Prince von Thurn und Taxis acquired the castle. After the end of the Second World War, the last lord of the castle, Friedrich Prince von Thurn und Taxis , was murdered on May 10, 1945 by a "revolutionary guard". After the nationalization of the castle, the kindergarten and the municipal administration office were housed in it. The building is currently unused and left to decay.

The district Libštejn was given the new name Zálesí on August 16, 1950. Until 1960 Biskupice belonged to the Okres Moravská Třebová and after its dissolution became part of the Okres Svitavy. On January 1, 1976, the incorporation of Biskupice to Jevíčko took place . Since September 1st, 1990 the municipality of Biskupice exists again.

Community structure

The municipality Biskupice consists of the districts Biskupice ( Biskupitz ) and Zálesí ( Liebstein ) and the locality Flintour ( Friedenthal ).
