Rohozná (German Rohosna ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic . It is located twelve kilometers southwest of Svitavy and belongs to the Okres Svitavy .
geography
Rohozná extends on the upper reaches of the Rohozenský potok in the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands . The Draha hill (647 m) rises to the east.
Neighboring towns are Radiměř in the north, Banín and Lavičné in the east, Vítějeves and Starý Svojanov in the south-east, Manova Lhota and Svojanov in the south, Hamry in the south-west, Čtyří Dvory and Dolní Jedlová in the west and Stašov in the north-west.
history
Rohozná was probably founded in the second half of the 13th century after Hlásnice and Starý Svojanov were first built along the Strenitzer Steig and then the side valleys were settled. The place was owned by Svojanov Castle . The name of the place comes from the old Czech word rogoz ( reed ) and occurs in Slavonic in this or a similar form. The existence of the village has been secured since 1349.
Until the 18th century, the area was heavily forested and only after Emanuel Freiherr von Bartenstein had acquired the rule of Swojanow from the Count Desfours -Walderode in 1809 did a stronger settlement begin. Bartenstein had the small village, which until then only lay at the foot of the Draha, expanded to the north, and German settlers from Bavaria and Saxony founded the localities Familie and Neu Rohozna, which later became Stubenberg. As a result, Rohozná grew to become the largest village in the Polička district . In 1921, 2054 people lived in the 308 houses in Rohozná. After the Munich Agreement , Stubenberg was separated from Rohozná and became a district of Bohnau in the German district of Zwittau . The border between the German Empire and the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia ran through the village . Rohozná was overpopulated at this time, as Czechs expelled from the German areas settled. In 1945 the village consisted of 380 houses and 2560 inhabitants. After the expulsion of the Germans, the number of residents declined even in 1945 to 1170, as many of the residents in the surrounding villages and to Svitavy in the previously attracted the Germans belonging homes. In 2001 Rohozná had 721 inhabitants.
