Opatov v Čechách (German Abtsdorf bei Zwittau ) is a place with 1100 inhabitants in the Czech Republic . It is located on the upper reaches of the Třebovka and belongs to the Okres Svitavy (Zwittau) in Pardubický kraj .

history

Herrmann (1245–1260), abbot of the Premonstratensian monastery Leitomischl , received the order from King Ottokar II to found and settle a village in the Schönhengstgau . It was named Opatov ( abbot village). The founding year is assumed to be 1248. The Church of St. Anthony was first mentioned in 1358. During the Hussite Wars , the population professed Utraquism . There is evidence of a school for 1585. In the course of the Counter Reformation Opatov was re-Catholicized in 1624. In 1760 it was granted market rights. In 1841 a fire destroyed large parts of the city. In 1846 Opatov was connected to the Prague - Brno - Vienna railway line.

Fish farming is used in the surrounding ponds. The largest pond with 5 hectares is the Hvězda ( star pond ) located at the northern end of the village, which is fed by the Třebovka and the Nový potok flowing from the smaller Nový rybník ( Neuteich ). At the southern end of the village between the neighboring Opatovec is the 3 hectare Vidlák, into which the Černý potok and the Mikulečský potok flow.

After the Munich Agreement , the place was added to the German Empire and belonged to the district of Zwittau until 1945 .

Community structure

The districts Nový Rybník ( Neuteich ) and Hvězda ( Sternteich ) belong to the municipality . The former district of Královec ( Königsberg ) no longer exists. In Nový Rybník there are still a few houses and the former destroyed chapel, now a gallery. In Hvězda there was a small two-story baroque chateau that was destroyed in the 1930s.
