The Segunda División 1948/49 was the 18th season of the second highest Spanish football league . It began on September 12, 1948 and ended on April 17, 1949. The relegation games were played between April 24 and June 26, 1949. Champion Real Sociedad .
Before the season
14 teams competed against each other twice in 26 games. The two best clubs were promoted to the Primera División , while the last two played in relegation against relegation.
Real Sociedad and Real Gijón took part as relegated from the Primera División , while Racing Santander and FC Girona were relegated from the Tercera División .

Relegation
The 13th and 14th of the Segunda División played together with the six group thirds of the Tercera División in two groups of four teams each. The two winners were qualified for the following season in the Segunda División.

At the end of the season it was decided to expand the league to 32 teams and the relegation had no effect. All eight clubs that played in the relegation, as well as the respective group first and second of the Tercera División were eligible to start for the following season.
