The Segunda División 1971/72 was the 41st season of the second highest Spanish football league . It began on September 5, 1971 and ended on May 21, 1972. Between May 28 and June 25, 1972, the relegation games were played. Champion Real Oviedo .
Before the season
The 20 teams met twice on 38 match days. The three best teams rose to the Primera División .
The last four clubs were relegated directly, the teams in places 13 to 16 had to fight relegation against relegation.
As relegated from the Primera División , FC Elche and Real Saragossa took part. From the Tercera División came Cultural Leonesa , CD Mestalla , CD Tenerife , Real Valladolid and Deportivo Xerez .
