The Sestao Sport Club was a Spanish football club from the Basque town of Sestao . Founded in 1916, the club played in Spanish professional football for almost 60 years before it was disbanded in 1996.
history
Sestao SC was founded in 1916 and started with the introduction of the Spanish league system in 1928/29 in the then third-class Tercera División . After the Spanish Civil War , he played for the first time in the Segunda División in 1939/40 for political and demographic reasons . At the end of the season, however, the league was restructured and the club was moved back to the Tercera División despite a fourth place in Group II. In the 1953/54 season, the athletic promotion finally succeeded in the second division, in which they then remained for seven years before relegating again in 1960/61. The following 24 years played Sestao SC only mediocre: From 1961 to 1977 in the Tercera División, then in the newly formed Segunda División B . 1984/85 managed to return to the second division as champions of Segunda Division B (Group I). After relegation in the 1992/93 season , two years later, the rise again succeeded. During the 1995/96 season , however, the club's financial problems became apparent. After the sporting descent, the club had to relegate to the fourth-class Tercera División because he could no longer pay his players. The club then disbanded in 1996.
After the dissolution, the Sestao River Club was founded in 1996 as a successor club.
