Copa de la Liga 1986

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Copa de la Liga 1986 was the fourth and final edition of the Spanish soccer league Cup Copa de la Liga . The competition began on May 1 and ended on June 14, 1986. Participants were the 18 first division clubs of the 1985/86 season and last year's winners of the lower-class Copa de la Liga events : Real Oviedo from the Segunda División , Sestao SC and Albacete Balompié from the Segunda División B and UB Conquense from the fourth-class Tercera División . FC Barcelona won the title for the second time . This qualified the club from Catalonia for the 1986/87 UEFA Cup and became the record winners of the League Cup.

Since the finals of the European Cup competitions and the 1986 World Cup were held in Mexico during the same period , there was little interest in the league cup games. Thereupon it was decided to abolish the competition after four years.
