The Segunda División 1987/88 was the 57th season of the second highest Spanish football league . It began on August 30, 1987 and ended on May 22, 1988. Between May 29 and June 5, 1988, the play-off games were played. CD Málaga became the master .
Before the season
The 20 teams met twice on 38 match days. The two best teams went straight to the Primera División . The third and fourth placed played against the 17th and 18th of the Primera División for promotion. Reserve teams were not eligible for promotion. The last four clubs were relegated.
Relegated from the Primera División took Racing Santander part. From Segunda División B came CD Tenerife UE Lleida , FC Granada and Real Burgos .
