The Segunda División 1953/54 was the 23rd season of the second highest Spanish football league . It began on September 13, 1953 and ended on April 18, 1954. Between May 2 and July 18, 1954, the relegation games were played. Champions were Deportivo Alavés and UD Las Palmas .
Before the season
The 32 teams were divided into two groups of 16 teams each. The two group winners were promoted directly to the Primera División . The two second and third place winners played together with the 13th and 14th of the Primera División in the play-off round two other teams who played first class in the following season.
The last three clubs were relegated from both groups. The two 12th and 13th played in the relegation against relegation.
Relegated from the Primera División took CD Málaga and Real Zaragoza in part, from the Tercera División came CD Badajoz , CD Castellón , Cultural Leonesa , SD Eibar , SD Escoriaza , UD España , Xerez , CP La Felguera and CD Tenerife .
