The Segunda División 1988/89 was the 58th season of the second highest Spanish football league . It began on September 4, 1988 and ended on June 25, 1989. Between June 28 and July 2, 1989, the play-off games were played. Master became CD Castellón .
Before the season
The 20 teams met twice on 38 match days. The two best teams went straight to the Primera División . The third and fourth placed played against the 17th and 18th of the Primera División for promotion. The last four clubs were relegated.
Relegated from the Primera División took RCD Mallorca , CE Sabadell and UD Las Palmas in part. From the Segunda Division B came UD Alzira , SD Eibar , CFJ Mollerussa and UD Salamanca .
