The Segunda División 1978/79 was the 48th season of the second highest Spanish football league . It began on September 3, 1978 and ended on June 10, 1979. AD Almería became the champion .

Before the season

The 20 teams met twice on 38 match days. The three best teams rose to the Primera División . The last four clubs were relegated.

Relegated from the Primera División took Betis Sevilla , FC Elche and Cádiz CF part. From the Segunda Division B came Algeciras CF , AD Almería , Castilla CF and Racing de Ferrol .
