Albacete is the capital of the Spanish province of the same name, Albacete, in the autonomous community of Castile-La Mancha . It is located about 200 km southeast of Madrid in the La Mancha plains. It is best known for the manufacture of knives and the Circuito de Albacete , a race track on which a motorcycle long-distance race takes place every year. The city is the bishopric for the diocese of Albacete and the location of the University of Castile-La Mancha . The Albacete province license plate number used until 2001 was AB .
location
The city is located in southeastern Spain and the Mancha, west of the coastal mountains. To the northeast lie Utiel and Requena , to the east Almansa and Onteniente , southeast to Yecla and Villena , to the south of Hellín , to the west of Valdepeñas and to the northwest towards the Alcázar de San Juan the village of La Roda . The port cities closest to the coast are roughly southeast of Valencia , Alicante and Cartagena .
economy
The enormous demand in Spain for solar modules led to the creation of a production facility in Albacete in 2005, which is operated by the local company "Gruposolar".
In addition, a Eurocopter plant has been located on the edge of Albacete Airport since 2007 . Today's Airbus Helicopters took over the fuselage and final production of the Eurocopter Tiger , NH90 and EC 135 for Spanish customers.

Albacete is the home of the Spanish soccer team Albacete Balompié , which played in the Primera División in the 2004/05 season but was then relegated.
