Location of the municipality

Villarrobledo is a municipality in the Spanish province of Albacete in the autonomous region of Castile-La Mancha . It is located about 721 m above sea level northwest of the city of Albacete in the La Mancha countryside.

The community, which had almost 26,000 inhabitants in 2015, is the center of a grain and wine-growing area, where cattle and cheese production is also carried out.

history

Villarrobledo was founded in the 13th century. During the First Carlist War , the Battle of Villarrobledo took place here on September 20, 1836 , in which General Isidro de Alaix Fábregas , who supported the Spanish regent Maria Christina , inflicted a heavy defeat on the Carlist leader Miguel Gómez Damas . 1929 received Villarrobledo from King Alfonso XIII. awarded the city charter.

Attractions

In Villarrobledo are the late Gothic, in the 15th / 16th. Church of San Blas, built in the 17th century, as well as a 17th century town hall and many Renaissance houses.
