Missal and breviary for the Mozarabic Rite

In the Archdiocese of Toledo, the Mozarabic rite has been practiced in six communities since the 11th century . These churches had become less and less important as time went on. The measurement books and books of hours used there were partly incomplete and differed greatly from one another. On behalf of the Archbishop of Toledo, Francisco Jiménez de Cisneros , Alonso Ortiz sifted through the existing material and tried to reconstruct the original version of the manuscripts. The result of his work were the Missal mixtum secundum regulam beati Isidori, dictum mozarabes, printed in 1500 , and the Breviarium secundum regulam beati Hysidori published in 1502 . Both works were printed in folio format at the expense of Archbishop Cisneros .

Alonso Ortiz owned the best library in Toledo of his time. It contained 998 volumes, in addition to a large number of manuscripts, a whole series of incunabula . He bequeathed it to the University of Salamanca. Many books with his autograph are still preserved there today.
