Jorge González , better known by his nickname Mágico González (born March 13, 1958 in San Salvador ), is a former Salvadoran football player in the position of a striker . He is considered "the best Salvadoran football player of all time".

career

González began his professional career in the 1975/76 season with ANTEL San Salvador and played in the following season 1976/77 for Independiente Nacional in 1906 , before moving to his long-term club CD FAS in 1977 , with whom he won the Salvadoran championship five times and in 1979 for only ever won the CONCACAF Champions' Cup in the club's history .

After he had contested the finals of the 1982 World Cup in Spain with the Salvadoran national team , González was committed by Cádiz FC , with whom he succeeded in his first season 1982/83, the immediate promotion to the Primera División .

Due to a falling out with his coach at the time, El Mágico moved to Real Valladolid in January 1985 , although he never really got a foothold and only made nine league appearances. After his return to FC Cádiz, he developed into a crowd favorite in the southern Spanish city and the greatest club idol of all time.

In 1991 he returned to El Salvador and played for his former club FAS until he was 42.

After his active career, he worked as an assistant trainer for Houston Dynamo and as a taxi driver.

In 2006, the Salvadoran National Stadium was named after González and he was also given the official title of "Honorary Citizen of the Nation" by the government of his home country.

In 2011, “Mágico” González was appointed to the coaching staff of the Salvadoran national team and he is also involved in an initiative for young street footballers in his hometown of San Salvador .
