Marco Asensio Willemsen (born January 21, 1996 in Palma , Mallorca ) is a Spanish football player . The attacking midfielder is under contract with Real Madrid and is a senior international .

family

Asensio is the son of a Spaniard from the Basque Country and a Dutch woman who died in 2011. His older brother Igor is also a soccer player and currently plays for Platges de Calvià in the fourth-class Tercera División .

Career

Asensio comes from the youth of RCD Mallorca . On October 27, 2013, he came on in the 1: 3 defeat at Recreativo Huelva for the first time in the Segunda División when he came on in the 84th minute for Pedro Geromel . He scored his first goal on March 16, 2014 in a 2-0 home win against CD Tenerife .

For the 2015/16 season Asensio moved to the Primera División for Real Madrid . He signed a contract in December 2014 with a term until June 30, 2021. On February 20, 2016, Asensio scored his first league goal in a 1-0 home win against Deportivo La Coruña . On his return to Madrid, Asensio won the UEFA Super Cup at the beginning of the 2016/17 season after beating Sevilla FC 3-2 , to which he contributed the goal to make it 1-0. On June 3, 2017, Asensio scored the goal of the 4-1 final against Juventus Turin in the final of the Champions League and won the title with his team. After his strong performance at the club, Asensio was appointed to the Spanish U19 team for the first time in November 2014 . On November 13, 2014, he made his debut in a 2-0 win over Germany and took the 1-0 lead after 52 minutes. Just two days later, Asensio was twice successful in his second appearance, a 5-1 win in France , and scored the goals to 1-0 and 2-0. In July 2015 he took part with the team at the U19 European Championship in Greece . With his two goals in the semi-final against France , he made a significant contribution to the finals and took second place on the list of goalscorers . After a 2-0 triumph in the final against Russia , Asensio was honored with the Golden Player Award as the best player of the tournament.

Asensio made his debut for the U21 national team on March 26, 2015 in a 2-0 win over Norway . In June 2017 he and the team took part in the U21 European Championship in Poland . In the final he defeated his team Germany with 0: 1 .

On May 29, 2016 Asensio made his debut in the 3-1 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina in the senior national team . On May 21, 2018, he was appointed to the Spanish squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia by national coach Julen Lopetegui . Asensio was used three times in the tournament and failed with his team in the round of 16 against Russia on penalties .
