Adil Rami ( Arabic عادل رامي, Born December 27, 1985 in Bastia ) is a French football player . He is currently under contract with FK Sochi and won the World Cup in Russia with the French national team in 2018 .

Career

In his clubs

Rami, born in Corsica , came to the Mediterranean coast of southern France with his parents when he was six ; There he soon joined the Étoile Sportive Fréjus , in whose amateur team he later played mostly in the central defensive position, after he had previously  tried on all posts - including that of the goalkeeper .

From there he was brought to the Lille OSC in 2006 , for whose top division team he was regularly used from the end of the 2006/07 season. In the meantime, Rami, whose coach Rudi Garcia describes him as “enormously inquisitive, adaptive and hardworking”, has played over 100 competitive games in France's highest league, in the national and European Cup and is increasingly coming into focus as a goalscorer.

In the winter break of 2010/11, Valencia CF signed Rami, but immediately loaned him to the donating club, so that Rami continued to play in Lille until the end of the season. There he managed to finish the double of championship and cup win .

Then he was also used regularly at Valencia. After two years in the Primera División , he criticized his coach Miroslav Đukić and several teammates publicly so severely that a break became inevitable. In mid-October 2013, the club loaned Rami to AC Milan for the Italian Serie A on January 1, 2014 . However, he immediately started training with the Italians. Rami made his debut on January 6, 2014 when he came on for Cristián Zapata in the 83rd minute of the 3-0 win against Atalanta Bergamo . Rami was firmly committed to the 2014/15 season . He signed a contract until June 30, 2017.

Rami moved to Sevilla FC for the 2015/16 season before returning to the south of France - to Olympique Marseille  - two years later .

On August 13, 2019, it was announced that the Ramis contract had been terminated by Olympique Marseille . He took part in the Fort Boyard television show despite reporting to the club as injured. At the end of August 2019, Rami signed a one-year contract with Fenerbahçe Istanbul with an option to extend for another year. There he was in the squad for most of the games. In fact, he only played one game in the league and six cup games.

The contract with Istanbul was terminated in February 2020. Rami moved to the Russian club FK Sochi and signed a contract there until the end of the season.

In the national team

Adil Rami, who had already been invited to training camps several times by the local football association due to his Moroccan migration background , was appointed to the squad of the French national team for the first time in 2009 , but then only played with the B-Elf ( called Equipe A ' in France ) Mali . Coach Raymond Domenech called him again in March 2010; in the game against Spain , however, he was also not yet used. In May 2010, Rami was appointed to the provisional squad for the 2010 World Cup . When the required reduction on May 17, Domenech cut the defensive player again. But he was even in the starting line-up when Domenech's successor Laurent Blanc made his debut on August 11, 2010 against Norway and then formed the new central defense together with Philippe Mexès in almost all of the Bleus' encounters . He scored his first goal for France against Iceland in May 2012 . Rami was in the squad for the 2012 European Championship and was used in all games there. The change of coach from Blanc to Didier Deschamps meant a half-year break in the national jersey for Rami before it was taken into account again in February 2013.

At the European Football Championship in his own country in 2016 , he was included in the French squad and played all three group games. Against Albania, he prepared the 1-0 in stoppage time. He received his first yellow card against Switzerland and was cautioned a second time in the round of 16 against Ireland. So he was suspended for the quarter-finals and was no longer used after that. The team made it to the final, where it lost to Portugal.

In May 2018, Rami was appointed to the squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia by coach Deschamps . There he was the only French outfield player not to play, resigned from the national team after winning the final on July 15, 2018 - and in November of the same year was even back in the starting line-up for his 36th international match.
