Paul Labile Pogba (born March 15, 1993 in Lagny-sur-Marne ) is a French football player . He has been under contract with Manchester United since August 2016 after the most expensive transfer in football history at the time . In 2018 he became world champion with the French national team .

Paul Pogba grew up as the son of Guinean parents in Roissy-en-Brie , a municipality in the Paris metropolitan area in Île-de-France . On October 7, 2009, he moved from AC Le Havre to the youth team at Manchester United . Pogba made his debut in the U-18 of the English record champions on October 10, 2009. In February 2011 he was called up to the professional squad of Manchester United, in which he was shirt number 42, but continued to play in the academy (U-18) and in the reserve team.

Pogba made his first-team debut in the third round of the Carling Cup in a 3-0 away win over Leeds United on September 20, 2011, when he was substituted on after half-time for Ryan Giggs . On January 31, 2012, he made his debut against Stoke City in the Premier League . After the season he left the club on a free transfer and joined the Italian record champions Juventus Turin . On October 20, 2012 he scored his first goal for Juventus after his substitution in a 2-0 win against SSC Napoli .

For the 2016/17 season , Pogba returned to Manchester United for a transfer fee of 105 million euros, which can increase by five million euros including bonus payments . He received a five-year contract dated June 30, 2021 with the Red Devils with an option for another season. At the time, the transfer was the most expensive in football history. A year later, Pogba was replaced in this ranking by Neymar , who moved from FC Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain for a transfer fee of € 222 million .

Pogba was a French junior international and was on 6 September 2011 against Italy's U-19 team for the first time for France's U-19 team . He made his debut in the national team in March 2013 in the World Cup qualifier against Georgia , when coach Didier Deschamps included him in the starting line-up. In his second match in this circle, four days later against Spain , he received two warnings in the 77th and 78th minutes and thus a dismissal. His national team colleagues call him “la pioche”, the pickaxe.

In July 2013, Pogba won the U-20 World Cup in Turkey with the French U-20 selection under coach Pierre Mankowski and was voted the best player of the tournament. In the final, his team beat Uruguay 4-1 on penalties . In the second round of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, he scored the first goal in the game against Nigeria. At the end of the game he was voted Man of the Match . He was also voted Best Young Player by FIFA at the end of the tournament.

He was appointed to the French squad for the 2016 European Football Championship in France and was in the starting line-up in all games with the exception of the second round game against Albania . In the quarter-finals against Iceland (5: 2) he scored his only tournament goal in the 19th minute with the 2-0.

He was called back to the squad for the 2018 World Cup and made six appearances. In the opening game against Australia , he supposedly scored the 2-1 winning goal for his team, which was later counted as an own goal by Aziz Behich , who deflected Pogba's shot. On July 15, 2018, he and the national team won the World Cup in the final against Croatia, in which he scored the 3-1 goal in the 59th minute. His team eventually won the game 4-2.
