Career
Childhood and youth
Renato Sanches was born in the city of Amadora in the greater Lisbon area , the child of a poor Saotomian - Cape Verdean immigrant family whose parents separated when he was five months old . He grew up in the problem area of Musgueira (now part of the Freguesia Lumiar in northwest Lisbon ), where many African immigrants live. His birth was not officialized by his Cape Verdean mother, Maria das Dores, until five years later, when she had him baptized, and because his father, also by name Renato Sanches, had meanwhile emigrated to France and did not return to Portugal until 2002. Since then, there have been doubts about Renato's real age in Portugal, but after Benfica officials had a bone and bite test carried out that confirmed his age, they fell silent. Sanches was registered on August 22, 2002 at the Conservatória do Registo Civil de Amadora , which confirms his birth on August 18, 1997 at 3:25 p.m. at the Amadora-Sintra hospital with a weight of 2,560 kg.
Known early on as a rascal ( Portuguese : coração malandro = trickster, rascal with a heart), he is also called Bulo da Musgueira .
