childhood

Cédric Soares was born as the son of second generation Portuguese guest workers in Singen, Baden-Württemberg . At the age of two he moved to Portugal with his parents. In Lisbon he went to the German high school .

Club career

Soares began his career in the youth of the Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon . In the 2010/11 season he made the leap into the professional squad and was awarded a contract until June 30, 2014. Soares played his first competitive game for Sporting Lisbon on November 4, 2010 in the Europa League in the away game against KAA Gent . One more game in the Europa League, one in the Cup and two in the Primeira Liga followed that season . In the next season he was loaned to the league rivals Académica de Coimbra for a year to collect match practice there. There he was able to assert himself as a regular player and came to 24 missions. After the season he returned to Sporting Lisbon.

On June 18, 2015, Cédric moved to English first division club Southampton FC . He signed a four-year contract.

On January 26, 2019 Soares switched to the Italian first division club Inter Milan on loan for half a year .

On January 31, 2020 Soares was awarded again for half a year, this time to the capital city club Arsenal . Before the 2020/21 season , he signed a long-term contract with Arsenal.

National team career

Cédric Soares went through all the youth teams of the Portuguese Football Association . The highlights were participation in the 2010 U-19 European Championship and the 2011 U-20 World Cup . While he failed with the U-19 selection in the preliminary round and only played two games, he reached the World Cup final with the U-20 and played all seven games during the tournament. On October 11, 2014 Soares made his debut in a friendly against France in the senior national team . Under national coach Fernando Santos , he then took part in the 2016 European Championship , where he was used in all games of the knockout round, including the 1-0 final win after extra time against hosts France , and consequently Portugal won the first title in the association's history.
