Lucas Torreira , full name Lucas Sebastian Torreira Di Pascua , (born February 11, 1996 in Fray Bentos ) is a Uruguayan football player . The midfielder is under contract with Arsenal FC in the Premier League and is a Uruguayan international .

Career

Torreira began his career in the youth team of his home club Institución Atlética 18 de Julio. Between 2013 and 2014 he was active in the youth of the Montevideo Wanderers .

In 2014 he joined the Italian club Delfino Pescara .

Before the start of Serie B 2014/15 , Torreira was appointed to the professional squad, on October 24, 2014 he sat on the bench for the first time. His competitive debut followed on May 16, 2015 in Serie B against Varese Calcio SSD , where he was in the starting line-up. Here he came on a total of five missions with the promotion playoffs.

On July 1, 2015, Torreira moved to Sampdoria Genoa for two million euros , but remained on loan with Pescara in the 2015/16 season . He scored his first professional goal on August 9, 2015 in the cup match against FC Südtirol . In July 2016 he returned to Sampdoria Genoa. Here he played his first competitive game on August 21, 2016 in the opening game of the 2016/17 season at the Stadio Carlo Castellani against FC Empoli .

For the 2018/19 season, Torreira moved to the English Premier League for Arsenal FC .

A national team

Torreira played his first international match on March 23, 2018 in the semi-finals of the China Cup against the Czech Republic , which was won 2-0. In May 2018 he was appointed to the squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia by national coach Óscar Tabárez .
