Sead Kolašinac [ kɔ'laʃinats ] (born June 20, 1993 in Karlsruhe ) is a German - Bosnian-Herzegovinian football player who is under contract with Arsenal . He is mainly set up as a left full -back, but has also been used in central defense , in defensive midfield or as a left midfielder . Kolašinac is under contract with Arsenal FC in England , was a German junior international and is the current national team player of Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Club career

Kolašinac began his career at FSSV Karlsruhe and then moved to Karlsruher SC , for whose youth teams he played for eight years. He came to FC Schalke 04 in January 2011 via TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and VfB Stuttgart .

With Schalke he won the German A-Junior Championship in 2012. In June 2012 he signed a professional contract with a term until June 30, 2015. In the first half of the season he was part of the Schalke squad in almost every Bundesliga match, but only made two short appearances. He played his first Bundesliga game from the start on matchday 21 in the 4-0 defeat against FC Bayern Munich . With good performances he ousted the regular left-back Christian Fuchs and completed 14 of 17 possible second round appearances, eleven of them over 90 minutes. In June, his contract was prematurely extended to 2017. He also received jersey number 6.

In the 2013/14 season , Kolašinac was only second choice in the position of left full-back after Dennis Aogo , also due to a torn muscle . At the latest after his cruciate ligament rupture, he was set as the left full-back for the first half of the season. On the first day of the 2014/15 season in the away game at Hannover 96, he tore a cruciate ligament in a duel . He celebrated his comeback on April 11, 2015 for the 28th matchday against SC Freiburg . He then made four more games, so that by the end of the season he had played six league games. Nevertheless, due to his injury, his regular place, which had been secured in the previous season, was only taken once. In the 2015/16 season he was only second choice behind Dennis Aogo for the first half of the season . On the 16th matchday he scored his first Bundesliga goal against FC Augsburg .

The 2016/17 season should be his strongest season at Schalke. At the beginning Kolašinac was only second choice behind the FC Chelsea loaned Abdul Rahman Baba , but from the 8th match day he was able to develop a regular place as a left attacking full-back. This was preceded by five defeats in the Bundesliga at the start of the season. Between the sixth and the eleventh match day he prepared four goals in the league. At the end of the first half of the season he scored two more goals. At the end of the season he had scored three goals in 36 competitive games and prepared nine more. In the league, not a single game could be won if Kolašinac was not used.

After his contract in Gelsenkirchen expired, Kolašinac moved to the English Premier League for Arsenal in the summer of 2017 . In his first season, the Bosnian was regularly used in the league as well as in national cup competitions and in the Europa League . In the European Cup he failed with Arsenal in the semi-finals at Atlético Madrid , in the league cup final at Manchester City . Kolašinac first played on the left side of midfield, but moved to the defensive wing in alternation with Nacho Monreal from February 2018 . In the following season he and the team made it into the final of the Europa League, but this time they were defeated by city rivals Chelsea . From summer 2019, head coach Unai Emery permanently ordered the player into the defensive department, but in the top 10 only two teams conceded more goals than the Gunners . Under Mikel Arteta , who inherited his compatriot Emery in the second half of the season, Arsenal was able to return the favor as an FA Cup winner against Chelsea and at the same time make it into the European Cup, which could not be realized through the league placement.

National team

German junior teams

On May 18, 2011 Kolašinac made his debut in the German U18 national team when he was substituted on for the game against Austria. He scored his first goal at international level on September 1, 2011 when the U19s played against Belgium. For the test match against the U21s of Israel on March 24th in Tel Aviv , Kolašinac was nominated for the U21 for the first time by Rainer Adrion . Kolašinac had to cancel the international match because his wisdom teeth were pulled. Although he had not played in the U21 until then, he was nominated by national coach Adrion for the 2013 European Championships in Israel . For the German team, the tournament ended in the group stage. Kolašinac was not used.

Bosnia Herzegovina

Safet Sušić called Kolašinac into the squad of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian national football team for the international match against Argentina on November 18, 2013 in St. Louis ; on his debut, he completed the entire season.

On May 7, 2014, he was appointed to the squad of the senior national team for the 2014 World Cup by Bosnian coach Safet Sušić . In the first World Cup game, he scored an own goal in the third minute and Bosnia-Herzegovina lost 2-1 to Argentina. The second game against Nigeria, in which he was not used, was lost 1-0, so there was no longer a chance to reach the round of 16. In the first World Cup victory against Iran, he was used again.

In qualifying for the European Football Championship 2016 in France , he played three games in Group B. After a 1-1 on November 13, 2015 against the selection of Ireland in the European Championship relegation (he was not used), he came to the 0-2 defeat in the second leg three days later over the full playing time.

Style of play

Kolašinac is considered a defensive all-rounder. In his junior days he played mainly as a central defender or in the defensive midfield (" six "). The then Schalke coach Jens Keller put him on as a left full- back, where he convinced. Kolašinac is considered to be a consistent and tough but also a clever defender. He convinces in the full-back position mainly through defensive work. Kolašinac names Jermaine Jones and Kyriakos Papadopoulos as sporting role models , since both of them also rely primarily on duel strength. He compensates for slight technical deficits with will, commitment and a quick start. In addition, he is considered a robust, dynamic player and he is said to have a physical and mental presence . Arsène Wenger spoke about Kolašinac as possibly the strongest player I have ever trained and praised his tackle leadership and strength, as well as his efficient runs on the offensive, through which he created some scoring chances and goals.
