societies

Abdul Rahman Baba began his career in 2004 with the Ghanaian club Young Meteors Tamale and later played for Dreamz FC . In the summer of 2011 he was awarded to the Ghanaian first division club Asante Kotoko , with whom he won the Ghanaian football championship. The second division SpVgg Greuther Fürth signed him for the 2012/13 season. On his debut for SpVgg on August 19, 2012 in the DFB Cup , he saw the red card after being substituted on . From the middle of the season he was a regular with the Fürthern.

In August 2014 Baba moved to Bundesliga club FC Augsburg.

After a year with Augsburg, Baba moved to the Premier League for Chelsea in August 2015 and signed a five-year contract. After he did not get a regular place in the 2015/16 season and only played 15 league games, he was loaned to FC Schalke 04 for the 2016/17 season in summer 2016 . In the first half of the Bundesliga he had 13 appearances for Schalke. In the Africa Cup of Nations in January 2017, he seriously injured his knee, which is why he was no longer used in the second half of the season.

After Baba initially returned to Chelsea in the summer, he switched back to FC Schalke 04 on another loan deal in January 2018. His loan contract was initially limited to June 30, 2019. Since he first had to catch up with an injury, he was only used on the last match day. Even in the 2018/19 season, Baba could not prevail under Domenico Tedesco and only made two Bundesliga appearances.

At the end of January 2019, the loan with FC Schalke 04 was prematurely terminated and Baba switched to the French Ligue 1 at Stade Reims on loan until the end of the 2018/19 season . By the end of the season he was always in the starting line-up in 11 league games and scored one goal. He then left the club when his contract ended.

At the beginning of the 2019/20 season he was awarded to the RCD Mallorca . There he came to two appearances in the league and the Copa del Rey . In the meantime he fell out with a knee injury. The RCD Mallorca relegated to the Segunda División at the end of the season , after which Baba left the club.

National team

In 2010 Baba was appointed to the Ghanaian U-20 national team for the first time and in 2012 he was named captain of the U-20 team. In March 2013, Baba was national coach James Kwesi Appiah first time for the senior team nominated. At the beginning of 2015 he was part of the squad at the 2015 African Cup of Nations under selection coach Avram Grant and reached the final with the team as a regular. There they lost the game against Ivory Coast on penalties , with Baba converting his penalty. Baba was also on the national team at the 2017 African Cup of Nations in Gabon . He seriously injured his knee in the preliminary round match against Uganda and then fell out.
