Reece James (born December 8, 1999 in London ) is an English football player who is under contract with Chelsea FC .
Career
In the club
London-born James joined Chelsea at the age of six and became a professional footballer in March 2017. In the 2017/18 season he had won the FA Youth Cup as captain with the U18 and was named Academy Player of the Season. He also played 20 league games (18 times from the start) for the U23 in Premier League 2 , in which he scored 3 goals.
For the 2018/19 season, James extended his contract with Chelsea until June 30, 2022 and switched to second division Wigan Athletic for a year on loan . There the right-back established himself immediately as a regular player and was used in 45 league games (44 times from the start) in which he scored 3 goals. In March he was voted into the best team of the season.
For the 2019/20 season , James returned to Chelsea, who were not allowed to sign any new players due to a transfer ban. From head coach Frank Lampard he was accepted into the squad of the professional team.
In the national team
In July 2017, James was part of the English U19 squad that won the 2017 UEFA European Under-19 Championship .
