Mason Tony Mount (born January 10, 1999 in Portsmouth ) is an English football player who is under contract with Chelsea . He occupies the position of attacking midfielder both in the club and in the English national team .

Beginnings at Chelsea

At the age of 6, Mount started playing soccer for Chelsea FC . At Chelsea, he went through all youth teams. With the U18, Mount won the FA Youth Cup for the first time in the 2015/16 season . With the U19 he won the UEFA Youth League in the same season . In the second half of the 2015/16 season, Mason played once in the U21s (from 2016/17 U23s ). In the 2016/17 season he played mainly in the U23, for which he scored 4 goals in 21 games. In addition, he played a few times in the U18, with which he became youth champion and again won the FA Youth Cup.

On loan in Arnhem and Derby

In July 2017 he signed a new four-year contract with the Blues , which awarded him to the Dutch first division club Vitesse Arnheim on July 24 for the entire 2017/18 season. He made his debut for the first team on August 26th when he was substituted on in a 2-1 home defeat by AZ Alkmaar in the closing stages of the game. He scored his first goal for Vitesse on October 1 in a 1-1 draw with FC Utrecht . In 29 league appearances, Mount scored eight goals and prepared nine more. This strong yield earned him the title of Player of the Year within the club . In the 5-2 away win in the Europa League playoff semi-final first leg against ADO Den Haag , Mason Mount scored a hat trick and also prepared a goal for Bryan Linssen . Mount also met again in the second leg, which was won 2-1 in GelreDome at home . He also netted again in the 3-2 win in the final first leg against FC Utrecht. Due to a yellow card suspension, Mount was only able to watch the second leg from the stands. Vitesse won 2-1 and started the third qualifying round of the 2018/19 UEFA Europa League the following season .

For the 2018/19 season, Mount moved to the second division Derby County for a year on loan . Under head coach Frank Lampard , he established himself as a regular player and was always used from the start in 35 second division games, scoring 8 goals. He was also used in 3 games in the promotion play-offs and scored one goal. In the final for promotion you had to admit defeat Aston Villa .

Return to Chelsea

For the 2019/20 season , Mount returned to Chelsea, who were not allowed to sign any new players due to a transfer ban. Shortly thereafter, he signed a new five-year deal with the Blues and completed the pre-season with the professional team that Frank Lampard, under whom he had played in the pre-season at Derby County, had previously taken over. Mount made his competitive debut on August 14, 2019 when he came on as a substitute for Christian Pulisic in the second half of the 2019 UEFA Super Cup against Liverpool . Lampard subsequently placed his trust in the young midfielder and also used him in Premier League games. On August 18 (2nd matchday) he scored for his team for the first time in a 1-1 draw against Leicester City .

National team

Mason Mount represented his home country in the U16 , U17 , U18 , U19 and U21 selections. With the U17 he took part in the U17 European Championships 2016 in Azerbaijan , where they failed in the quarter-finals against Spain .

He was part of the squad of the U19 national team at the U19 European Championship 2017 . In the final against the Portuguese selection , he prepared Lukas Nmecha 's 2-1 winning goal . His strong performances in these finals also earned him the title of player of the tournament and a nomination for the team of the tournament .

During the UEFA Nations League games against Croatia and Spain , coach Gareth Southgate nominated him for the first time for England's senior team in October 2018 . On September 7, 2019, he made his debut in a 4-0 home win in qualifying for the European Championship 2020 for the Three Lions , when he came on for Jordan Henderson in the 67th minute of the game . He scored his first goal in his sixth international match in a 4-0 away win in the qualifier against Kosovo two months later.
