Lukas Nmecha (born December 14, 1998 in Hamburg ) is a German - English football player . The offensive player is under contract with Manchester City and is currently on loan to RSC Anderlecht . He is also a multiple English and - since the U21s - German junior national player.

family

Nmecha was born in Hamburg to a German mother and a Nigerian father . In 2007 the family emigrated to England . His younger brother Felix (* 2000) is also a soccer player.

Career

In the club

Nmecha was the age of nine in a tournament his primary school team from Wythenshawe of Manchester City scouted , after which he moved to the youth of the club. From the 2015/16 season, he played in the U18s and in the UEFA Youth League in the U21s (from the 2016/17 U23 season). On December 19, 2017, Nmecha made his debut in the first team under Pep Guardiola when he was substituted on in the League Cup in the quarter-finals against Leicester City just before the end of regular time. In January 2018 Nmecha extended his contract until June 30, 2021. At the end of the 2017/18 season , two short appearances in the Premier League followed , which made him League Cup winner and English champion this season . In addition, the striker scored 15 goals in 11 appearances in the U23.

For the 2018/19 season Nmecha moved on loan to the second division Preston North End . He came to 41 league appearances as a center forward or on the wing (24 in the starting line-up), in which he scored four goals. In the summer preparation for 2019 Nmecha returned to Manchester City and played in friendly matches for the professional team. At the beginning of August he switched to the Bundesliga for VfL Wolfsburg on loan for the 2019/20 season .

During the Bundesliga winter break, the player was brought back to England after only twelve competitive games for Wolfsburg and from January 3, 2020 until the end of the 2019/20 season, he was loaned to the second division club FC Middlesbrough . For Middlesbrough Nmecha completed eleven league games as a center forward, four of which were in the starting line-up, but was not directly involved in any goal; Ashley Fletcher and Britt Assombalonga were always preferred to him by coach Jonathan Woodgate . With the club he played for relegation, which was reached in seventeenth.

For the 2020/21 season Nmecha moved to the Belgian first division club RSC Anderlecht for a year on loan .

In the national team

Nmecha initially played for the English youth national teams. With the English Under-19 national team , he was in the U19 European Championship in 2017 in Georgia U19 European champion . Nmecha then played once for the U20 national team (one goal) and 3 times for the U21 national team .

In March 2019 Nmecha was nominated for the first time for the German U21 national team by Stefan Kuntz . After FIFA approved him at short notice, he made his debut on March 26 in a 2-1 friendly win - the last friendly before the 2019 European Under-21 Championship - in Bournemouth against England. Nmecha was finally appointed to the EM squad by Kuntz . He made three substitutions at the tournament and had to admit defeat with the team in the final of the Spanish selection .
