Elias Cobbaut (born November 24, 1997 in Mechelen ) is a Belgian football player . The left defender is currently under contract with RSC Anderlecht .

Career

In his youth, Cobbaut played for the local club KRC Mechelen . At the age of seventeen in 2014 he moved to the professional club KV Mechelen within the city . In the summer of 2016 he received his first professional contract with KV Mechelen with a term of two years. In his first version, he was in seven of thirty games of the main round on the field and in all ten Play-off II games.

After this season, a contract extension was agreed until summer 2021. Cobbaut was on the pitch in 29 of 30 main round games. There were no play-off games because KV Mechelen was relegated from the 1st division after this season due to the goal difference.

After the two clubs reached an agreement, Cobbaut then moved to RSC Anderlecht in summer 2018 , where he signed a five-year contract. In his first season at RSC Anderlecht he was out from mid-August 2018 to mid-December 2018 due to a torn ligament.

National team

Cobbaut played several qualifying matches for the U-21 European Championship in 2019 for the U-21 national team . At the tournament itself he played in all three group games for the full duration. Belgium was eliminated as the bottom of the group after these group matches. Due to his age, he is no longer eligible to play for the U-21 European Championship 2021 and its qualifying matches.

After being called up for the first time in the senior national team's squad for the qualifying matches for the 2020 European Championship on November 16 and 19, 2019 , he actually played his first international match against Cyprus on November 19, 2019 - directly over the full Playing time.
