Hans Tilly

Hans Tilly (* around 1937 ) is a Carinthian entrepreneur . He is the founder of the Tilly wood industry and one of the largest forest owners in Carinthia.

Life

Tilly's family comes from Tarvisio in the Canal Valley and was relocated to Carinthia in 1938 or 1941 and settled in Kappel am Krappfeld . Tilly was the first Carinthian farmer to grow rape and maize , and he used the profit to buy forest areas. In 1981 Tilly founded Tilly Holzindustrie GmbH with the purchase of a sawmill. In 1985 he built a natural wood panel plant. The single, triple and multi-layer panels formed the company's basis for success. In 1997 he bought the Hespa forest operations and expanded his professional focus with the management of the forest.

Of the 17,000 hectares at that time, he owns 8500 hectares as of 2011. This makes Tilly the second largest private forest owner in Carinthia, after the Catholic Church.

Hans Tilly has three children, one of whom is the company's managing director and another runs his farm.

He also worked on oil businesses in Libya. With the purchase of Gut Walterskirchen am Wörthersee he created his private residence, the redesign of which was criticized several times due to extensive felling in the middle of a nature reserve and exceeding the approved renovation measures. In one of the processes surrounding Walterksirchen, a settlement was reached with one of the Naturfreunde chairmen in February 2019.

Drilling company at the Krappfeld

Another big project of the entrepreneur was a derrick that was set up in Kappel am Krappfeld to drill for oil and hot water. After something irrelevant was found, the drilling was stopped again in October 2018. The depth reached was measured at 2800 meters. The data and measurements found were made available to Austrian universities for research.

In 2001 the Tilly Holzindustrie celebrated its 20th company anniversary.
