Jérémy Doku (born May 27, 2002 in Antwerp ) is a Belgian football player on the position of a striker and winger . Since summer 2018 he has been part of the professional squad of the Belgian first division club RSC Anderlecht , but is still mainly used in its youth department. Furthermore, the Ghanaian-born offensive player is a multiple Belgian youth national player.

Club career

Doku was born on May 27, 2002 as the son of Ghanaian parents in Antwerp and played in his childhood, among others, for Turbantia Borgerhout from the smallest Antwerp district, Borgerhout . Later he switched to the youth team of Beerschot AC , before the big club RSC Anderlecht became aware of the offensive young talent in 2012 . At the capital club he went through all youth classes from the U-11 and was able to recommend himself to the professional team after just a few years and some successes. At the same time, he had caused a stir with his performance at international games for Belgium and attracted the attention of scouts of international clubs. In the spring, both Belgian and Ghanaian media reported that the documentary was about to move to Liverpool FC .

At the same time, RSC Anderlecht offered the 15-year-old offensive player a professional contract with a term of three years and subsequently accepted it by the player. After being tied to the club, Doku continued to play as a regular for the club's U-17 team and represented them in the 2018/19 UEFA Youth League . There, the now 16-year-old played as a left winger from the first round of the championship path of the U-19 competition. After a narrow progress against the youth of FC Admira Wacker Mödling due to the away goals rule, RSC Anderlecht were just defeated in the second round against the youth of Dynamo Kiev . Here he contributed to Antoine Colassin's 1-0 lead in the 2-1 defeat in the second leg against the Kiev team.

Two days before that, he made his debut on November 25, 2018 in a 2: 4 away defeat against VV St. Truiden for the professional team of RSC Anderlecht, when coach Hein Vanhaezebrouck took him from the 78th minute of the game for Yari Verschaeren , who was around a year older made his professional debut that evening, too. In the following 17th championship round on December 2, 2018, Doku also made a short appearance in the 0-1 home defeat against KRC Genk , when he came on the pitch for Zakaria Bakkali in the 66th minute and then acted as a center forward. In the 1-1 draw against Sporting Charleroi seven days later, the young offensive was again only unused on the bench and in the meantime has not been considered for the squad participating in the group stage of the 2018/19 Europa League .

In mid-November 2018 it became known that Doku is still being courted by Liverpool FC and that Anderlecht had already allowed the English club to contact Doku. In February 2020, RSC Anderlecht agreed with him on a contract extension until summer 2022.

National team career

Doku gained his first experience in a youth national team of the Belgian Football Association in 2017 when he played in a number of international matches for the Belgian U-15 national team between February and April . Here he came on April 26th in a 5-1 win over Wales and on April 27th in a 3-2 win over Switzerland to one goal each. On September 12, 2017, he made his debut in a 1-1 draw against his colleagues from Hungary for the Belgian U-16 team , for which he was the team captain and mostly a regular player from an early age . By the end of the year, Doku, who was used alternately as a regular and then again as a joker, had six international matches in which he himself remained goalless. With the start of 2018, Doku was also able to demonstrate its offensive strength. He scored one goal in each of his three U-16 internationals in 2018 and also contributed one assist in a 3-3 draw against the Czech Republic on February 8 .

On May 5, 2018, still 15 at the time, the Antwerp-born man made his debut for the Belgian U-17 juniors under coach Thierry Siquet when he represented his home country at the U-17 European Championship in England in 2018 . After his debut as a substitute in the first game against Ireland , he only sat on the bench in the second group game against Bosnia and Herzegovina to play over 80 minutes in the third group game against Denmark and contribute to the 1-0 win. After three wins in the group phase, there was another 2-1 victory over my colleagues from Spain in the quarter-finals, but the documentary was again without a role in the squad. In the subsequent semi-final game against Italy , the Ghanaian-born winger returned to a brief assignment and was eliminated from the tournament after a narrow 1: 2 defeat in the semi-finals.

After three out of five possible friendly matches in September 2018, Doku started the qualification for the U-19 European Championship 2019 at the end of October as an increasingly deployed left winger . After he was not in the official squad in the first group match of the first qualifying round, he was used in the subsequent 5-0 win over Latvia from the start and over the full game. After scoring two goals in that game, he contributed two assists in the next, a 3-0 win over the Greeks .

He was then also in the squad of the U-17 national team at the U-17 European Championship 2019 and was on the pitch in all five Belgian games for the entire duration. Belgium reached 6th place in this tournament.
