Anthony Vanden Borre (born October 24, 1987 in Likasi , Zaire ) is a Belgian football player . Vanden Borre is a citizen of both Belgium and the Democratic Republic of the Congo .

Club career

Vanden Borre is considered extremely talented and switched from Anderlecht's own youth to the professionals in the 2003/04 season at the age of 15 .

Since the 2007/08 season Vanden Borre has been playing for ACF Fiorentina , to which he moved for a transfer fee of 3.5 million euros. He received a contract until 2012. On October 7, 2007 he made his debut in the game against Juventus Turin , when he came on in the 67th minute for Giampaolo Pazzini . In January 2008 the CFC Genoa bought 50% of its transfer rights, which is why Vanden Borre now ran for the Genoese . In return, Papa Waigo N'Diaye moved to Florence .

In August 2009 Vanden Borre was loaned to Portsmouth FC , where he made his debut on August 19, 2009 under coach Paul Hart in the game against Birmingham City . The English club also had a purchase option, which he did not take.

Therefore, Vanden Borre went back to Genoa after the 2010/11 season, from where he moved directly to KRC Genk , with whom he signed a contract until June 30, 2012. After the contract expired, he moved back to RSC Anderlecht. There he announced the end of his career in January 2017 after he had previously been loaned to HSC Montpellier , but already resumed his career in March 2017 by becoming active again for the Congolese first division club Tout Puissant Mazembe . As the reason for his preliminary retirement, he gave "mental fatigue".

The contract with Mazembe was terminated by mutual agreement in August 2017. Various sources speak of four games that Vanden Borre made for Mazembe, although it is not clear whether these were championship games.

After he hadn't played football for two years, RSC Anderlecht announced in mid-September 2019 that Vanden Borre would train with the Anderlecht U21 team in order to find a way back into professional football. Vanden Borre also took part in the RSC Anderlecht winter training camp. On January 17th, 2020 he signed a player's contract with RSC Anderlecht and has officially been part of their squad ever since. After his contract expired on June 30, 2020, he was allowed to continue training with the team. After a few days, Vanden Borre received a new contract. In particular, Anderlecht assumed that he would have a positive influence on the younger players and that his experience would give them advice and support.

National team

On April 28, 2004 Anthony Vanden Borre made his debut for the Belgian national team against Turkey at the age of 16 as a substitute in the 90th minute . He then played his first international match in the starting eleven on June 4, 2005 against Serbia and Montenegro . His first and so far only international goal he scored on May 11, 2006 in a 2-1 friendly win against Saudi Arabia .
