Giampaolo Pazzini (also called il Pazzo (dt. The crazy )), (born August 2, 1984 in Pescia (PT) ) is an Italian football player .
Career
In the club
Giampaolo Pazzini began his career in the youth of Atalanta Bergamo , for whose professional team he made his Serie B debut in the 2003/04 season . He played in 39 league games that season and scored nine goals. After he was able to secure promotion to Serie A with Atalanta , he completed twelve league games for Atalanta in the 2004/05 season. In January 2005 he moved to the league competitor Fiorentina . There he was used regularly and was supposed to follow in the footsteps of Luca Toni , who had migrated to FC Bayern Munich , and in whose shadow he was until 2007. Shortly after Toni's departure, Pazzini extended his contract to 2011 in July 2007. When asked which new star striker they wanted to buy as a "replacement for Toni", the president of Fiorentina replied: "We're not getting a new Toni, we already have one, namely Giampaolo Pazzini! ".
In the 2008/09 season Giampaolo Pazzini came after the commitment of Alberto Gilardino in Florence often only as a substitute for use and only scored one goal. Therefore, he moved to league competitor Sampdoria Genoa on January 14, 2009 for eight million euros . In return, the Fiorentina loaned the Genovese attacker Emiliano Bonazzoli until the end of the season. Pazzini scored eleven goals in 19 games in the second half of the season and, with strike partner Antonio Cassano, contributed significantly to keeping the Blucerchiati up . In the 2009/10 season , this storm duo played a major role in Sampdoria reaching fourth place in the table and qualifying for the Champions League . Pazzini contributed 19 league goals to this success.
On January 28, 2011, Pazzini moved to the Italian champions Inter Milan . In return, Sampdoria received Jonathan Biabiany and about twelve million euros. On his competitive debut for the Milanese, Pazzini scored two goals, although he only came on in the second half, and thus contributed significantly to his team's 3-2 victory over US Palermo . Overall, he scored eleven goals for Inter in the second half of the season, which aroused great expectations for the 2011/12 season at the club and its fans . The striker was unable to meet these requirements, however: in 40 competitive appearances, he only scored eight goals.
For the 2012/13 season , Pazzini moved to city rivals AC Milan for seven million euros . In return, Milan striker Antonio Cassano moved to Inter.
In the summer of 2015, Pazzini moved to Hellas Verona . In January 2018, Pazzini was awarded to UD Levante .
In the national team
Giampaolo Pazzini scored on March 24, 2007 in the 3-3 draw of the U-21 national teams of Italy and England, the first goal in the newly built Wembley Stadium after 25 seconds . He scored all three Italian goals in that game. In total, he played 22 times in the Italian U-21 national team and scored five goals.
On March 28, 2009 Giampaolo Pazzini made his debut under Marcello Lippi in the Italian national team . He was substituted on for Vincenzo Iaquinta in the 59th minute in the 2-0 win in the World Cup qualifier against the Montenegrin national soccer team and scored his first international goal after just 15 minutes. Only three days later, on April 1, 2009, Pazzini was in the game against Ireland for the first time from the start for the Squadra Azzurra on the field. The Italian was sent off after three minutes by the German referee Wolfgang Stark because of an elbow check against the Irishman John O'Shea .
