Peer Kluge (born November 22, 1980 in Frankenberg / Saxony ) is a former German soccer player . His preferred position was the defensive midfield.

Career

Kluge began his career at Chemnitzer FC , for whose youth teams he played from 1987 to 1999. From 1999 he was part of the professional squad of Chemnitzer FC, which was playing in the 2nd Bundesliga at the time. After the relegation of Chemnitz in the 2000/01 season, Hans Meyer brought him to the Bundesliga promoted Borussia Mönchengladbach . For the "foals" he completed a total of 141 Bundesliga games in six years and scored nine goals. He was Borussia's third captain and led the team onto the pitch when Kasey Keller and Oliver Neuville were absent.

After the relegation of Borussia, Kluge moved in July 2007 to 1. FC Nürnberg, now trained by Hans Meyer. With the "Clubberern" he scored three goals in the first eight match days of the first half of the season; he also scored the important equalizer to make it 1-1 in the UEFA Cup match against Rapid Bucharest on October 4, 2007. After that, however, it took over a year until he scored another competitive goal on October 17, 2008 for the now relegated FCN. From then on he was increasingly used as a playmaker or as a winger in the diamond instead of as before as a six . On December 8, 2008 he scored the first header goal of his professional career. In the 2008/09 season he managed to return to the Bundesliga with 1. FC Nürnberg. He was used in 28 games and scored four goals. In the first half of the 2009/10 season he was used in all games, but could not prevent 1. FC Nürnberg from finishing the first half of the season on a relegation zone.

During the winter break of the 2009/10 season, Kluge moved to FC Schalke 04 and signed a contract there until June 30, 2013. He played a total of 51 competitive games with the “Knappen”, including eight European Cup games and five DFB Cup appearances. He played his last competitive game on October 29, 2011, when he came on as a substitute in the 3-1 win against TSG Hoffenheim just before the end of the game.

During the summer break of 2012, Kluge moved to Bundesliga relegated Hertha BSC , with whom he signed a two-year contract. He scored his first goal for Hertha on October 19, 2012 in a 2-0 away win against VfL Bochum . After Kluge had completed two short appearances for the newly promoted Hertha in the 2013/14 Bundesliga season , he was transferred to the second team in Berlin on February 6, 2014. He then sued the Berlin labor court to return to training with the first team.

For the 2014/15 season , Kluge signed for two years with second division relegated Arminia Bielefeld. Due to injury, Kluge hardly played and ended his career in 2016.
