Sofyan Amrabat ( Arabic سفيان أمرابط, DMG Sufyān Amrābaṭ ; * August 21, 1996 in Huizen ) is a Moroccan - Dutch football player .

Career

Amrabat had started playing football in his hometown Huizen with HSV De Zuidvogels before moving to FC Utrecht in 2007 , around 30 kilometers south of his homeland. After being in the professional squad for the first time in October 2014, he made his debut in the Eredivisie in November 2014 when he came on as a substitute for Kristoffer Peterson on matchday 11 of the 2014/15 season against Vitesse Arnheim in the 83rd minute.

At the end of the season Amrabat had four league appearances to book. After he had only played seven league games in the 2015/16 season, he became a regular in the 2016/17 season, making 31 games. He scored a goal in none of his league appearances. Since he had finished the season in fourth place with FC Utrecht, there were now four more qualifying games for a place in the Europa League . In the first of these games, a 3-1 win in Heerenveen , he scored the 1-0. Ultimately succeeded in Utrecht qualifying for the Europa League, the decisive final match against Alkmaar , however, he was no longer with it, as it already at this time in the Moroccan national team was that three days later in Marrakech against the team of his native country the Netherlands took ; however, he was not used in the game.

For the 2017/18 season he moved to league competitor Feyenoord Rotterdam , with whom he received a contract valid until June 2021. National team

Amrabat had played four games for the Dutch U-15 team in late autumn 2010 and spring 2011 before playing for Morocco. With the Moroccan U17 team he took part in the U17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates in 2013 , in which Morocco lost 2-1 to the Ivory Coast team in the round of 16 . Amrabat played three of his team's four tournament games.

In March 2015 Amrabat was the first time in the squad of the senior national team , the friendly against pursuing Uruguay but only on the bench. He finally made his debut for Morocco in March 2017 in a friendly against Tunisia . He was in Morocco's squad for the 2018 World Cup . After a 2-2 draw against Spain and two 0-1 defeats against Portugal and Iran , Morocco was the last in Group B to be eliminated from the tournament. In the last game against Iran, he came on for his brother Nordin in the 76th minute for his only tournament appearance.

He has played a total of 14 international matches so far, but has not yet scored a goal.

His brother Nordin (* 1987) is also a soccer player and currently (2019/20) plays for al-Nasr Riyadh in Saudi Arabia .
