Club career

Career start at home

Nikola Milenković was born on October 12, 1997 in Belgrade, the capital of what was then the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, and began his football career in the offspring of the traditional club FK Partizan Belgrade . After playing in all youth leagues, he was sent on loan to the farm team FK Teleoptik in the third-class Srpska Liga Belgrade in the summer of 2015 , where he made 13 championship appearances in which he himself remained goalless. With the team that was runner-up in this league in 2014/15, he also only reached second place in the table in the final ranking of the 2015/16 season. In the second half of the 2015/16 season he made the leap into the professional squad with play in the Serbian SuperLiga . With the first division Milenković signed a five-year contract and was still entitled to play on loan for the farm team during this game year.

After he sat on the substitute bench of the reigning champions for the first time in a 2-1 away win over FK Čukarički on March 20, 2016 , he made his professional debut three rounds later. In the 4-0 home win over FK Mladost Lučani , coach Ivan Tomić used him in central defense for the full 90 minutes on April 10, 2016 . After he was not part of the squad in the following league game, he was in the game after next, a 1: 2 home defeat against FK Čukarički, back in action from the start. In that encounter he was suspended for four games due to a serious foul in which he jumped against the knee of his opponent Petar Bojić with a stretched leg . After this suspension, he played his team's last two games of the season for the full length of the game and in the last championship game, a 3-2 home win over FK Vojvodina , scored 1 in the seventh minute of the game after preliminary work by Nemanja Mihajlović : 0 lead. With the team he finished the regular championship in second place in the table, 28 points behind the clear first and city rivals FK Red Star Belgrade . In the following championship round, the last seven league games, Partizan could not assert himself against Red Star either. In the Serbian Football Cup , however, the team was able to prevail against the competition in 2015/16 and won the final 2-0 over FK Javor Ivanjica ; Milenković was not used in any cup game.

Defending champion in the cup and championship title in the SuperLiga

The 1.95 m tall central defender started the 2016/17 season with his team by participating in the second qualifying round for the 2016/17 UEFA Europa League . The coach used him in the first and second leg for the full duration of the game. After Partizan had already finished the first leg with a 0-0 draw, the team only managed 0-0 in the second leg after regular time and had to go into extra time and, after that too, to penalties . In this, the Serbs were finally defeated 3: 4 against Zagłębie Lubin . In the Serbian SuperLiga 2016/17 Milenković started again as a regular under coach Ivan Tomić. After there was a subsequent change of coach, whereupon Marko Nikolić was hired as the new coach a few days later , the central defender was not used in the second and third round of the championship and only stayed on the bench. After a weak start to the season and some injured players on Partizan's defense, Milenković was a regular in the defensive line of the capital club from the fourth round at the latest. Subsequently, he played with his club for the championship title and lost only one of the following 34 championship games. After the regular season, however, the team was unable to prevail against Red Star and was six points behind their city rivals again in second place in the table. After completing the championship round, the last seven league games, Partizan was able to line up ahead of Red Star and win the championship. In February 2017, Milenković was listed by the Italian trade press, especially La Gazzetta dello Sport , as one of the 30 best young players in the world. In the Serbian Football Cup 2016/17 , Marko Nikolić also used him in all games of FK Partizan; In the final against local rivals Red Star, the central defender was able to present himself as the match winner. After a corner shot by Marko Janković , he scored in the 42nd minute of the game to make it 1-0; Partizan was able to bring this 1-0 lead through the entire game and defend the title.

Change to Italy

On May 24, 2017, three days before defending the title in the Serbian Football Cup, Milorad Vučelić , President of Partizan Belgrade, announced the move of the tall central defender to the Italian Serie A at Fiorentina . With a rumored transfer fee of 5.1 million euros, the 19-year-old signed a contract with a term of five years until the summer of 2022. After his move in the summer of 2017, the Serb was unused on the bench from the start of the 2017/18 season and should only act as reserve for Italian international Davide Astori . It was not until December 22, 2017, the 18th round of the championship, that Milenković made his debut in the top Italian football league when coach Stefano Pioli used him as a left-back in the 1-0 away win over Cagliari Calcio and from the 84th minute by Carlos Sánchez replaced. In the following three championship games he sat on the bench again without an appearance and only came back to his second appearance in Serie A on January 22, 2018. Pioli also used him in the following three championship games and left him - alternately as right-back and Playing center-back - mostly used over the full 90 minutes. Then he missed a game due to a yellow-red suspension . On March 4, 2018, his teammate Davide Astori was found dead in his hotel room before a match between Fiorentina and Udinese Calcio . Nikola Milenković was still aspirant to the position of central defender of Fiorentina, on which Astori also played.

National team career

Between 2015 and 2016, Milenković played in at least three international matches for the Serbian U-19 national team. He made his debut on December 16, 2015 in a 4-1 defeat in a friendly international match against his colleagues from Italy . He then competed with the team in qualifying for the U-19 European Championship in 2016 and was used in two of his team's three group games in the elite round of qualification, where he scored one goal. With the team he retired as third in Group 7; only the winner of each group qualified for the finals in Germany . Shortly before his 19th birthday Milenković was under Slavoljub Muslin his debut in the senior national team of his home country when he at a 0: 3 defeat in a friendly against Qatar , as the Uruguayan -katarische dual nationality Sebastián Soria a hat trick succeeded, from the beginning came to use and was replaced by Vladimir Kovačević at half-time .

In 2017 he made his debut under Nenad Lalatović in the Serbian U21s and from then on came to regular appearances for them. Among other things, he took part with the Serbs in the 2017 U-21 European Championship in Poland , but was not used in any of his team's three group games in the preliminary round.

In 2018 he took part in the soccer World Cup in Russia with Serbia , in the preliminary round he was used in all three group matches in central defense.
