Villarreal CF

In the summer of 2007 he moved to the Spanish first division club Villarreal . There he signed a five-year contract. In order to gain experience, he was loaned to the first division competitor Recreativo Huelva , with whom there was a cooperation in matters of transfers. On January 9, 2008, Cáceres scored the decisive goal for the 1-0 first leg win in the Copa del Rey against the club where he was actually under contract, Villarreal . At the end of the season , the Andalusian club managed to stay in the league, in which Cáceres had a large share as a regular player, which he drew the interest of larger clubs.

FC Barcelona

For the 2008/09 season , Martín Cáceres moved to FC Barcelona for a transfer fee of 16.5 million euros . The contract, which ran until 2012, included an exit clause of 50 million euros. With Barça , the Uruguayan won the triple of Champions League , Spanish Championship and Copa del Rey in 2008/09 under coach Pep Guardiola . Cáceres played a total of 23 games, but did not make it to become a regular.

Loan to Turin

On August 7, 2009, Martín Cáceres moved on loan for a year to the Italian record champions Juventus Turin . Juve had an option to sign the defender for a fixed sum after the loan expired. Already on his first appearance, on September 12, 2009, the defender scored his first goal for the old lady in a 2-0 away win in the Serie A game against Lazio Rome . At the end of the season, however, the purchase option was not taken and the defensive player returned to Barcelona.

Sevilla FC

However, Cáceres was loaned again and played for Sevilla FC in the 2010/11 season . He played 37 games for Seville that season and scored two goals. Seville also had a purchase option, which was also drawn in May 2011. Cáceres signed a new contract until June 30, 2015.

Return to Turin

After only one and a half years, Martin Cáceres returned to his former employer Juventus Turin on loan . The Italians received a purchase option based on a transfer fee of eight million euros.

In his first game for the Bianconeri in the Coppa Italia match against AC Milan at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium , the Uruguayan scored both goals to win the 2-1 victory. At the end of the season, he won the Italian championship. For the 2012/13 season , Cáceres was finally committed. He signed a four-year contract until June 30, 2016. Move to England

After initially being out of a club for a few months, it was announced on January 17, 2017 that Cáceres had reached an agreement with the Turkish club Trabzonspor to conclude a contract for three seasons. Ultimately, the commitment failed because he failed the Turkish medical examination. The press also reported that there were marked differences in the two parties' financial views. Cáceres then parted ways with his long-time advisor Daniel Fonseca .

On February 7, 2017, the BBC finally announced that Cáceres had reached an agreement with Southampton FC for a six-month engagement. On February 16, 2017, he finally signed a contract with the British until the end of the season, but only played once (no goal) in the Premier League.
