For the 2015/16 season, the league consisted of 16 teams, but play-offs and play-outs were introduced after the regular season. The new format should make the audience more attractive and make the larger clubs more competitive at European level. The clubs competed against each other in the regular round in the first half of the round in 30 match days. There were three points for a win, one point for a draw and no points for a loss.
After the basic round, the league was divided into two finals, so that the teams in places 1 to 8 reached the championship round, in which they played in seven play-off games for the championship. The clubs in ranks 9 to 16 played against relegation in seven play-out games, the last two were relegated directly. The teams were credited with half of the points scored from the preliminary round, which took place in 30 match days, with half points rounded up. After all, at the end of the final round, each club played a total of 37 games.
The eight best-placed teams in the regular season each competed once against each other in order to play off the champions and the international starting positions. The points from the basic round were halved and rounded up if necessary.
The eight worse teams of the regular season each competed against each other once to determine the two relegated teams. The points from the basic round were halved and rounded up if necessary.
