The Gradski stadium Subotica ( Serbian - Cyrillic Градски стадион Суботица ; German Municipal Stadium Subotica ) is a football stadium with an athletics facility in the Serbian city of Subotica . It is owned and home to the Spartak Subotica football club from the autonomous province of Vojvodina .
history
The municipal stadium was completed in 1936 and inaugurated on June 6th of that year. The venue was to become the central point of a large leisure complex. This plan was thwarted by the Second World War and has not yet been implemented. In addition to the parking areas surrounding the stadium , there are also two training areas. In the 1970s the facility was renovated and redesigned. 1972 new concrete stands were built and 1978 were u. a. the changing rooms renewed. Around the playing field made of natural grass and the athletics track with curves behind the goals, the grandstands were arranged in an unusual rectangular way, which makes it difficult to see what's going on in the corner of the grandstand. These areas are closed today. The stadium used to hold up to 28,000 spectators, but only minor work has been done since the renovation work. Finally, the ailing tiers were mended with concrete. The Gradski stadium Subotica is currently limited to 13,000 spectators. As the majority of the seats are standing, the venue does not meet UEFA requirements for international matches.
In 1986 the stadium was one of the venues for the U-18 European Football Championship . It hosted a quarter-finals, third-place game and the final.
