Qualification for UEFA Europa League

The Serbian Football Cup is the national cup competition for Serbian club teams. It has been organized annually by the Serbian Football Association (FSS) since 2006 and is the most important title in national club football after winning the Serbian Championship . Currently the main sponsor of the cup is the Carlsberg Brewery Serbia , and so the competition is named after their most famous beer, Lav beer, and is called Lav Kup Srbije ( Serbian - Cyrillic Лав Куп Србије ), which means Lav Cup of Serbia.

Serbian club previously played for the Yugoslav Cup . This competition lasted until 2003. After the dissolution of Yugoslavia in 1991, a new Yugoslavia was founded, which consisted of the republics of Serbia and Montenegro . She kept the name of Yugoslavia until 2003 when the country changed its name to Serbia and Montenegro . This unification lasted until 2006, when Montenegro gained its independence and thus withdrew from the competition. Since then, the cup has been a tournament exclusively for clubs from Serbia.

The winner of the cup is determined according to the knockout system . The pairings are drawn before each round. The 32 clubs of the SuperLiga and Prva Liga are qualified for the first main round , plus five teams from the lower leagues. If a game ends in a draw after regular playing time, there is a direct penalty shoot-out . The winner of the cup will get a place in the UEFA Europa League if the club has not already qualified through the league. After the break-up of Yugoslavia, Serbia became the sole legal successor to the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, which was founded in 1992 . Thus, all trophies won are considered valid and will continue to be included in football ratings.

The current cup winner (2019) is FK Partizan Belgrade .

After Montenegro gained its independence, the cup was renamed the Serbian Cup and has been a competition of the Serbian club teams since 2006. trophy

Before the tournament began in its new form in the 2006/07 season, the Serbian Football Association decided that the competition should receive a new trophy, and the last trophy won by Red Star ended up in the museum of the great Belgrade club. To create a new design, a competition was given at the University of the Arts in Belgrade, where the respective students designed their creations. The Serbian Association presented the new trophy on December 11, 2006. The artist Mihajlo Mlinar prevailed against 50 other students and won the prize money of 250,000 Serbian dinars (approx. 23,000 ). The trophy, which was heavily inspired by Serbian Orthodox Christianity as well as the history of Serbia , was considered the perfect trophy for the biggest soccer cup competition in Serbia . On May 15, 2007, Red Star Belgrade won the final against Vojvodina Novi Sad in the Partizan Stadium , making it the first Serbian team to receive the newly designed trophy.
