The FK Jagodina (full official name in Serbian : Фудбалски клуб Јагодина, Fudbalski klub Jagodina ; German : Jagodina football club) - also known as Plavi ("The Blue") - is a football club from the city of Jagodina , which plays in the Prva liga , the second highest division in Serbian football.

The association was founded in 1919, just a few months after the end of the First World War , under the name JSK Zora . After numerous renaming and a merger of several city associations, the current name was created in 1962.

In the times of Yugoslavia and Serbia and Montenegro , the FK Jagodina played mostly in the lower leagues of the country, except in the season 1957/58, under the name FK Morava , and 1993/94, when one spent a season in the second division. From 2006 the club managed to march straight through from the 4th division to the 1st division.

Even as a first division club, FK Jagodina is continuing its good development and has finally established itself as one of the most stable Serbian football clubs in recent years. The club's greatest sporting success was winning the Serbian Football Cup in 2013 and reaching the Cup final in 2014, as well as third place in the 2013/14 season .

The club plays its home games in Gradski stadium Jagodina , which is part of the sports and leisure area Đurđevo brdo and is located in the extreme south of the city.

history

1906–1939 - The early years

Bust of the pedagogue Sreten Adžić in Jagodina , the initiator of football in the city by bringing the first football to Jagodina in 1906

In 1906 it was Sreten Adžić, today one of the best-known educators in Serbia, who, as a former student of the University of Vienna and the University of Leipzig and founder and director of the first male teacher training school in Jagodina, brought the first football from Vienna to Jagodina. He saw in football the educational value of physical, social and emotional development as well as the opportunity to develop the youthful spirit with the aim of cultivating the ethical virtues .

Over the years, football, which has attracted the public's attention in everyday life, has become increasingly popular in the region. Therefore, in 1919, just a few months after the end of the First World War , on the initiative of Milan Trifunović and several former Serbian soldiers, the first football club was founded in the city, to which they named JSK Zora .

The first official game in the club's history should take place soon. The idea came from Josip Baner, the brother of Franc Baner, who brought the second football to Jagodina after Sreten Adžić. After his return from Skoplje, Josip Baner finally organized the match between JSK Zora and a team made up of players from SK Jugoslavija and Belgrade SK , which surprisingly won 6-0 in front of around 200 spectators.

In 1921 JSK Zora was dissolved and a new club called SK Sparta was founded, from which JSK Budućnost later emerged, but which was not allowed to start playing until 1923. In the 1922/23 season, SK Sparta won the league of the Šumadija region , which was then the third division of Serbia. In the meantime, other clubs were founded in Jagodina, but they were soon to be dissolved. JSK Daca was established in 1926, JSK Hajduk and JSK Tomislav in 1928 , all of which were dissolved in 1932. But the JSK Sloga was founded in the same year, but it soon had to end its gaming operations. The former players of this club, especially those of the clubs JSK Hajduk and JSK Daca , finally founded the football club JSK in 1935 .

1939–1947 - During World War II

During the Second World War , the JSK was one of the strongest clubs in the country, but the Kingdom of Yugoslavia was crushed and occupied by the Axis powers . The region around Jagodina was under the German military occupation by the Wehrmacht , but despite all the difficulties that the war and the occupation brought with it, the association managed to achieve positive results in the national competition, in which not every association was or was allowed to participate could.

In 1943, the JSK managed to complete a total of 45 games, 32 of which were able to decide for themselves, which finally brought him the championship of the regional league of the Morava Banschaft . In the qualification for promotion to the Serbian league, the third highest division of Yugoslavia, they played against Šumadija Kragujevac . Although the JSK managed to rise, the following season was postponed and should never be started due to the consequences of the war. The last game during this period completed the club on May 25, 1944, when they defeated SK Karađorđe from Paraćin 1-0.

On 9 May 1945, only one day after the unconditional surrender of the armed forces that led to the end of the war, was in the city a sports club called SD Polet , who in 1946 FK Nikčević was renamed after Radislav Nikčević, a Serbian resistance fighters from Jagodina, who was captured by German soldiers during the war and killed during a liberation struggle, as well as posthumously declared "People's Hero of Yugoslavia", whereby he received the Order of People's Hero in 1951 from Head of State Josip Broz Tito .

1947–1962 - Name changes and club merger

The FK Nikčević reached 1,947 for the first time the knockout stages of the Yugoslav Cup . In 1949 his name was changed again, this time to FK Sloga , who took part in the competition of the lower class league of Kragujevac and whose club management included Mile Milovanović, Dušan Stojković and Ljubiša Milosavljević. In 1951 this club was renamed FK Mladost . 1953 Rale Ristić is the club's president, and Ostoja Simić coach of the team that met defending champions Partizan Belgrade during the season in the Cup . As early as 1954, the association was named FK Morava , named after the Morava , the longest river in Serbia, on which the city of Jagodina lies.

In 1957 the club reached the 2nd Yugoslav league for the first time, more precisely the IV Zona , since the then 2nd league consisted of five sub-leagues. The captain of this generation was Dimitrije Milosavljević. At this time, other football clubs were founded in the city, including in 1948 FK Mladi Radnik , which was renamed FK Jedinstvo in 1952 . In the same year Jedinstvo won under coach Budimir Milivojević the city cup named "Liberation Svetozarevos", because in Yugoslavia the city of Jagodina was named Svetozarevo , named after Svetozar Marković .

In the final they defeated Morava 3-2. In 1952 the FK Svetozarevo was founded, which was soon named OFK Kablovi , after a local cable factory . In 1958 the city got the Gradski Stadium Jagodina, which was built in the extreme south of the city, in the immediate vicinity of the hill Đurđevo brdo , which at the time had a capacity of 20,000 and was used by several Jagodin football clubs.

Finally, it came on 14 October 1962 a merger of the clubs Morava , Jedinstvo and OFK Kablovi to a club, now FK Jagodina, which brought an end to a long era of name changes. Despite the turbulent history up to then, the numerous name changes and the club merger, the club's roots go back to 1919, the year JSK Zora was founded , the very first football club in the city. FK Jagodina itself officially names 1919 as the year it was founded and is considered the successor to all of these clubs and continues the tradition of these predecessor clubs.

1962–2008 - dreary years, advancement and establishment

In the following three decades, the club could not achieve significant results, so the club played mostly in the lower leagues. After the dissolution of Socialist Yugoslavia in 1992, the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia was founded, which consisted of the republics of Serbia and Montenegro . After years of underclassiveness, the FK Jagodina celebrated its greatest success since 1957 when it was promoted to the 2nd league of Yugoslavia in 1993, but was relegated as the penultimate in the 1993/94 season.

The club reached its lowest point between 2002 and 2006, when it mainly played in the 4th division of the country, which has since been renamed Serbia and Montenegro , whose state union ended in 2006. This year marked a turning point for FK Jagodina. 2006 succeeded the runner-up and thus promotion to the 3rd division. In the 2006/07 season the club won the championship title of the Srpska Liga Ost , one of the four sections of the 3rd division of Serbia, and thus played in the 2nd division for the 2007/08 season . There the runner-up was achieved straight away, in which attacker Igor Pavlović as top scorer with 17th goals had a significant share. The club managed to march straight through to the top division, the SuperLiga , in which FK Jagodina was also able to establish itself.

“Something has happened that the city of Jagodina has never seen in its history so far, namely that FK Jagodina wins the Serbian Cup. Why have we invested so much in sport: We want young people's role models to be on the sports field. And everything that this city does in terms of sport, I don't see it as a bad investment. […] In this way we will continue to divert young people from the bad path, from drugs and alcohol, and provide them with conditions that enable them to participate in sport. "
