The FK Bežanija (officially on Serbian : Фудбалски клуб Бежанија - ФК Бежанија, Fudbalski klub Bežanija - FK Bežanija ), usually Bežanija , also known as Lavovi ( "The Lion") is a Serbian football club from Bežanija , a district in the Belgrade municipality Novi Beograd . FK Bežanija currently plays in the Prva liga , the second highest division in Serbian football.
history
The club was founded in 1921 under the name Soko ("The Falcon") during the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes (1918–1928) in Belgrade . This was changed to Bežanijski sportski klub ( BSK ) in the 1930s during the Kingdom of Yugoslavia (1929–1941) . He only played friendly matches at the time . With the establishment of Socialist Yugoslavia (1945–1992), the association was renamed FK Jedinstvo . It was played in the regional Sremska league and from 1952 in the Belgrade City League. Before the 1955/56 season, the club changed its name to FK Bežanija, which is still in existence today.
From the 1965/66 season to 1988/89 they played in the first and second city leagues of Belgrade, where he won the title in 1989 and rose to the third division. 2005 followed the promotion to the 2nd division of Serbia and Montenegro (2003-2006) and the season after the championship victory. However, the state union was dissolved in 2006, so that Montenegro formed its own league. The club played in the 2006/07 season in the top division of Serbia , the Super League . They finished in 4th place and qualified for the 2007/08 UEFA Cup , until today the biggest success of FK Bežanija.
In the 2007/2008 season, the club was relegated to the Prva liga , the second highest division in the country. In the following season you could just avoid relegation to the Srpska liga Beograd with 15th place . However, the club was able to stabilize and is now considered one of the most stable second division clubs.
Stadion
The stadium kraj Bežanijske crkve ("Stadium next to the Bežanijer Church"), also known as Stadion Bežanije ("Stadium Bežanijas"), is the club's "pure" football stadium , built in 1951 , with a capacity of 2,000 seats . An expansion of 4,000 places is planned. Right next to the stadium is the 19th century Serbian Orthodox Church called Crkva Svetog velikomučenika Georgija , which is dedicated to Saint George . Today the stadium is in need of renovation.
