Politika ( Cyrillic Политика ) is the oldest daily newspaper still publishedin Serbia . It is considered the leading paper in the country.

The newspaper was founded in Belgrade on January 25, 1904 by Vladislav Ribnikar . It is currently published by Politika Newspapers and Magazines , a joint venture between the Serbian publisher Politika AD and the German WAZ media group .

Many well-known Serbian writers also emerged as authors in Politika , such as B. Branislav Nušić , Ivo Andrić , Moša Pijade u. a. Miroslav Lazanski, one of the most famous journalists in the former Yugoslavia and later Serbia, who was especially known as a military commentator, worked for Politika from 1991 to 1996 and 2001 to 2019. Lazanski, through his contacts in the highest level of military leadership in the Soviet Union, the Warsaw Pact, NATO and the US military and, in particular, the Yugoslav People's Army during the civil wars. was therefore also regularly quoted by Western news agencies. He interviewed various Soviet marshals and defense ministers of the Soviet Union Dmitri Timofejewitsch Jasow (1988), Sergei Fyodorowitsch Achromejew (1982), Viktor Kulikov (1986), as well as the American commander and admiral of the US Pacific Fleet Huntington Hardisty . In 2019 he was appointed Serbia's ambassador to Russia. Lazanski was also the only foreign journalist to receive an invitation from the North Korean leadership to the military parade in 2018 to mark the seventieth anniversary of the North Korean armed forces in Pyongyang. As an embedded journalist, he reported from Iraq during the First Gulf War in 1991.
