The SV Neptun Aachen 1910 e. V. is a swimming club in Aachen in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia .

Club history

The swimming club Neptun 1910 e. V. was founded on November 9, 1910. 37 gymnasts from seven clubs, which at that time were members of the "Verband Aachener Turnvereine" (VATV), merged to form a swimming department. The Aachen factory director Pirnay, who was elected first chairman, played a key role in the establishment of the company.

The association received a major boost from the introduction of swimming lessons at Prussian schools as a compulsory subject in 1911. In the same year, the association was able to move into a new swimming pool in Aachen, the Elisabethhalle , in which women were given their own small swimming pool for the first time.

The First World War left its mark on club life. Despite severe setbacks, it was possible to join the German Swimming Association in 1920 .

With the completion of the water diving facility in the west hall, diving in Aachen gained a new dimension. For the first time in Aachen it was now also possible to train from the 10 m tower. With the addition of a dry jumping facility and the partial boarding school, one of the most compact training facilities for diving in Germany was created in Aachen . In 2008 the west hall was renamed Ulla-Klinger-Halle by a council resolution .

The former chairman Paul Bienen was one of the great personalities of SV Neptun Aachen. After he took over the chairmanship in 1929, he pushed the formation of the diving school massively. In 1938 the association with Gertrud Bollinger first drew national attention to itself at the German Swimming Festival in Breslau in the field of art and high diving .

After the Second World War , the association found it difficult to resume work. Not until 1948 could emergency training be offered again. The water divers were given the opportunity to train with the trampoline at the Technical University (TH) . This emergency was a stroke of luck for the club, because many students found their way to water sports. In 1954 a. a. also Otto-Eberhard Klinger, who took over the management of the diving school in 1962. Under his leadership, the club began its rapid ascent in the field of art and high diving. SV Neptun generated numerous German champions, European champions and youth world champions. In 1978 his wife Ursula Klinger was appointed national coach for the DSV. In 2002 and 2008, the SV Neptun, under the direction of Hans Alt-Küpers, organized the youth world championships in diving and for decades the internationally highly regarded Lambertz print competition in Aachen. SV Neptun owes its top position, among others, to Ms. Gerta Nadenau , who received high awards for her successful engagement in the youth field. Since 2013, SV Neptun has been organizing the Ulla Klinger Cup , an international water jumping competition for young people in the D and C classes (9–13 years).

The SV Neptun Aachen department of art and high diving is the state performance center of North Rhine-Westphalia, talent base in North Rhine-Westphalia and was a federal and Olympic base until 2013; it is currently the DSV's junior support center.

In addition to the art and tower divers, there is also a swimming, volleyball and ballet department .
