Ursula Klinger

Ursula Klinger (born January 24, 1948 in Aachen ; † September 4, 2006 there ) was a German diver and national trainer in the field of high diving .

Since July 1, 1978, she stood as national coach in the service of the German Swimming Federation (DSV), since 1991 as head coach, most recently in October 2002 to her retirement on June 30, 2004 as sports director of jumping.

Ursula Klinger already led the Federal Republic of Germany's diving team as a trainer at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montréal (Canada) and was then represented at all other Olympic Games , World and European Championships with the exception of the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow . Because of her technical competence and appreciation of her successful work in diving, she was appointed to the advisory board of national coaches in 1999 by the German Sports Association (DSB).

Ursula Klinger stayed in show jumping on a voluntary basis even after she left the DSV. Since the 2005 World Championships in Montréal, she has been a member of the jumping committee of the world association FINA . In October 2000, she was awarded the then German President Johannes Rau , the Federal Cross of Merit .

Rau specifically praised the “respectful and successful merging of the diving divisions in the two German swimming federations after reunification”.

Ursula Klinger attached particular importance to the area of ​​promoting the next generation of high divers. In her hometown club SV Neptun Aachen 1910 , in which her mother Gerta Nadenau had been a trainer for decades, she not only trained top athletes, but also took time for beginners.

Ursula Klinger succumbed to cancer that she was diagnosed with in 2003. Recently, Klinger had to undergo inpatient treatment more and more frequently.

The city of Aachen named what was then the West Swimming Pool, a competition and training facility for art and high diver, in honor of Klinger in 2008 in Ulla-Klinger-Halle.
