The FC Rubin Kazan ( Russian Футбольный клуб Рубин Казань , Tatar Рубин Казан футбол төркеме ;. English FC Rubin Kazan ; . Scientific transliteration Futbol'nyj club Rubin Kazan ' ) is a Russian football club from Kazan , the capital of the autonomous Republic of Tatarstan . Rubin Kazan has played in the top Russian league ( Premjer League ) since 2003 and was the Russian champion in the 2008 and 2009 seasons and the Russian cup winner in 2012.

history

Soviet Union

In 1936 a football team was founded in the vicinity of the Kazan Gorbunow factory , which quickly became the largest club in Kazan in terms of numbers. She first played under the name Komanda Leninskowo Rajona ("Team of Lenin Raion "), Krylya Sowetow , Dinamo , Iskra and finally since 1964 Rubin .

The actual year of birth of the professional club is 1958. The then club Iskra , as it was called from 1958 to 1964, made its debut in Class B of the Russian Soviet Republic.

Russia

After the collapse of the Soviet Union , the club was called Rubin-TAN until 1993 and was accepted into the second Russian league . From 1994 to 1997 the team from Tatarstan played in the third Russian league . In 2002, under the leadership of the newly signed head coach Gurban Berdiýew, the championship of the second division was won and the team rose for the first time to the Premjer League , the highest Russian professional league. Rubin finished his first season in the Russian House of Lords in third place and immediately qualified for the 2004/05 UEFA Cup . In the second preliminary round, the club was eliminated by Rapid Wien (2-0 in Vienna, 0-3 at home), against which they also had to compete in the third round in the Intertoto Cup 2007 (1-3 in Vienna, 0-0 in Kazan) and lost again and thus did not qualify for the 2007/08 UEFA Cup. Before that, they had prevailed in the second round against the Hungarian representative Zalaegerszegi TE FC .

In the 2008 season , the team became Russian champions for the first time after recording seven wins in the first seven games of the season. The team secured the title early with a 2-1 win at Saturn Ramenskoje .

In the 2009 season , this success was repeated by a 0-0 win against Zenit St. Petersburg in the penultimate game of the season. This was possible because Spartak Moscow lost 3-2 in the Moscow derby against CSKA Moscow on that match day . In 2009 the final of the Russian Cup was reached for the first time. On May 31, 2009 the game against CSKA Moscow was lost 1-0 in the Khimki arena . Due to winning the championship in 2008 and the associated direct qualification for the Champions League, the team took part in this for the first time in the 2009/10 season. In the second group game, the defending champions FC Barcelona , in their Camp Nou , were sensationally defeated 2-1. The goal scorers for the team from Tatarstan were Alexander Ryazantsev and Gökdeniz Karadeniz . In the group stage, the team finished third behind FC Barcelona and Inter Milan and ahead of Dynamo Kiev . As a result, Rubin continued to play in the 2009/10 Europa League , where the team from Kazan initially defeated Hapoel Tel Aviv in the sixteenth-finals and was only subject to VfL Wolfsburg after extra time in the subsequent eighth- finals. It was also announced that this season, despite higher financial resources due to participation in the UEFA Champions League, the players were still waiting for three outstanding monthly salaries on the penultimate matchday.

In January 2010, the CIS Cup was won after the Kazakh representative FK Aqtöbe was defeated 5-2 in the final . After the 2010 season Rubin finished third in the Premjer league. By winning the championship in 2009 and the associated direct qualification for the group stage of the Champions League 2010/11 , the team took part in this for the second time in a row. In the group stage, the team finished third behind FC Barcelona and FC Copenhagen and ahead of Panathinaikos Athens . As a result, Rubin continued to play in the 2010/11 Europa League , where the team was eliminated in the sixteenth-finals against FC Twente Enschede .

Rubin Kazan - Spartak Moscow

With the third place from the 2010 season, the team from Kazan took part in the third qualifying round for the 2011/12 Champions League , where Dynamo Kiev from Ukraine could be eliminated. However, the team lost to the French representative Olympique Lyon in the subsequent play-off round . Thus Rubin Kazan took part in the group stage of the Europa League 2011/12 , where in group A the second place behind the Greek club PAOK Thessaloniki could be occupied. In the sixteenth finals Rubin Kazan failed to Olympiacos Piraeus . In the same year, the first national cup win was celebrated when the team of Dynamo Moscow was defeated 1-0 by Roman Eremenko in the final in the central stadium in Yekaterinburg on May 9th .

In the following European Cup season, the club asserted itself in the group stage of the Europa League a . a. against Inter Milan and eliminated as group winners in the sixteenth and sixteenth finals the Spanish representatives Atlético Madrid , the defending champions, and UD Levante . In the quarter-finals, the 3-2 win against Chelsea after a 3-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge was not enough to reach the semi-finals. Nevertheless, the 2012/13 European Cup season was one of the most successful seasons in the club's history.

After the successes in the qualifying rounds as well as in the playoff round, Rubin reached the group stage of the Europa League 2013/14. They took first place in their group and thus qualified for the knockout round, where they met Betis Sevilla , to which they were inferior and were eliminated from the competition. On December 20, 2013, the Turkmen coach Gurban Berdiýew was dismissed after more than 12 years in office.

Dynamo Moscow was originally allowed to take part in the third qualifying round of the 2015/16 UEFA Europa League by finishing fourth in the 2014/15 table , but was banned by UEFA for violating financial fair play and replaced by Rubin. In the two qualifying rounds, the team was able to prevail against SK Sturm Graz and Rabotnički Skopje and reach the group stage. With Liverpool FC , Girondins Bordeaux and FC Sion , Rubin completed Group B of the competition, but was eliminated from the competition as third in the table.

Stadion

Until 2014, the club played its home games in the 30,133-seat central stadium in Kazan , which opened on June 25, 1960. In 2014 Rubin Kazan moved to the newly built Kazan Arena (today: Ak Bars Arena ), which can hold 45,093 spectators .
