Iván Marcano Sierra (born June 23, 1987 in Santander , Cantabria ) is a Spanish football player .

Career

In the club

Marcano began his career with the Racing Santander youth team , where he started playing football in 1997. In 2006 he came to the second team, which played in the third highest Spanish division. With the last place, the team was relegated to the fourth division. In the following year, the rise could be achieved. In the 2007/08 season he was also used in the first team.

The debut in the top Spanish league was Marcano on September 30, 2007 against the UD Almería . He was substituted in the 78th minute against Samuel. The game was won 1-0. In the 2008/09 season he was one of the permanent staff at Racing, where he was even able to score two goals in the season. You finished twelfth in the final reckoning. He also made his debut at European club level in the UEFA Cup . The defender played through in the 1-0 win against Finland’s FC Honka .

In 2009/10 he moved to Villarreal , where he also became a regular player. In the 2010/11 season he was awarded to Getafe FC and Olympiacos Piraeus in 2011/12 .

In the 2012/13 season Marcano moved to the Russian first division club Rubin Kazan. He was loaned to the Greek club Olympiacos in the winter of 2013. This time with the option to buy at the end of the season.

In August 2014 Marcano moved to FC Porto in the Primeira Liga . After two runners-up championships (2015 and 2017), he became Portuguese champions with FC Porto in the 2017/18 season .

In summer 2018 he moved to Italy for AS Roma .

National team

Internationally, he has so far only played for Spain's youth teams. He took part in the 2009 U-21 European Championship in Sweden . Marcano was used in the third group game against Finland , where he played through. The game in Gothenburg ended 2-0 for Spain, but they were eliminated as third in the group behind England and Germany .
