The FC Honka in German-speaking countries as FC Honka Espoo known is a Finnish football club from Espoo . The men's team played in the Veikkausliiga from the 2006 season to the 2014 season and from the 2018 season . The women's team plays in the Naisten Liiga and is a four-time Finnish champion.

history

Men's soccer

The club was founded in 1957 as Tapion Honka but changed its name to FC Honka in 1975. The club took first place in the Ykkönen in 2005 and thus rose to the top Finnish league for the first time , where it took 4th place and thus participated in the UI Cup 2007 . In 2007 the club also reached the final of the Finnish Cup. Despite losing to Tampere United they qualified on this way for the UEFA Cup 2008/09 , as Tampere competed as champions of the same year in the Champions League. In 2012, Honka FC won the Suomen Cup for the first time with a 1-0 final win against Kuopion PS .

2014 Honka rose from the Veikkausliiga due to license refusal in the 3rd League South . After promotion to the Ykkönen in 2017 , FC Honka qualified for the play-off games against the 11th of the Veikkausliiga. There Honka prevailed with a more shot away goal against Helsingfors IFK and made it to the top Finnish league.

Women's soccer

The women's team made it to the top division in 2002, became champions for the first time in 2006 and qualified for the UEFA Women's Cup . In the following two years, the team was able to defend the championship, in the 2009 season they finished 2nd behind Åland United . In 2017 Honka won the championship for the fourth time.

The club plays its home games in the Tapiolan urheilupuisto stadium , which has a capacity of 4,100 and was built in 1970.
