Taru Laihanen (born April 15, 1986 in Hämeenlinna ) is a former Finnish soccer player . The striker has won the Finnish championship twice.

Career

Laihanen started her career at JJS Hämeenlinna when she was eight . She later moved to FC United Pietarsaari and in 2005 to FC Honka Espoo . With Honka she became Finnish champion in 2006 and 2007. In the 2007 season she was the top scorer of the Naisten Liiga with 21 goals . In January 2008 Laihanen moved to the German Bundesliga club SG Essen-Schönebeck. In her very first game for Essen against SG Wattenscheid 09 , she scored her first Bundesliga goal. At the end of the season she left Germany again and played for Ilves Tampere for the rest of the year . In early 2009 she joined HJK Helsinki. There she ended her career at the end of 2010.

For the Finnish national team, she played a total of 13 games in 2007 and 2008. There are also 43 appearances in the junior national teams.

Private

Laihanen is studying speech therapy . Her father Jussi Laihanen coaches the Ilves Tampere women's team .
