The SG Wattenscheid 09 (officially: Sportgemeinschaft 09 Wattenscheid eV ) is a sports club from the Bochum district of Wattenscheid . The women's football department existed between 1973 and 2010. The first team played in the Bundesliga for two years . The home venue was the Lohrheide Stadium .

history

The women's football department was founded in 1973. Twelve years later, the Wattenscheiderinnen were among the founding members of the then first-class Regionalliga West , from which the team promptly relegated. After the ascent in 1988, the direct relegation followed. It was not until 1990 that the Wattenscheider women were able to establish themselves in the now second-class regional league. Three years later, the team was runner-up behind FC Rumeln-Kaldenhausen . Since the north vice FTSV Lorbeer Rothenburgsort did not qualify for the promotion round to the Bundesliga, Wattenscheid moved up and came third behind Schmalfelder SV and FC Rumeln-Kaldenhausen.

In 1994 Wattenscheid became regional league champions and on the penultimate match day of the promotion round, after a 3-2 win against VfL Wittekind Wildeshausen, made it to the Bundesliga. However, the jump to the upper house was too big and the team had to be relegated as the penultimate direct in the 1994/95 season . The low point of the season was a 10:10 home defeat against Grün-Weiß Brauweiler . The direct resurgence was missed. After the championship in the Regionalliga West, the Wattenscheiderinnen needed a win against Hertha Zehlendorf on the last day of the promotion round . However, the Berlin women won 3-0, so that Schmalfelder SV rose due to the better goal difference .

Also in 1997 Wattenscheid was champion of the Regionalliga West, missed promotion to second place in the group behind SSV Turbine Potsdam in the relegation to the single-track Bundesliga . In the following years, the Wattenscheiderinnen remained a top team in the regional league, but without coming close to promotion. In 2004 the team was one of the founding members of the 2nd Bundesliga . After two fourth places, the breakthrough came in the 2006/07 season . The team could win all home games and became champions. The SV Victoria Gersten was even with 10: defeated first Due to the financially difficult situation of the entire club, a spin-off of the women's football department was discussed, but these plans were discarded.

Despite the reinforcement by the national player Kerstin Stegemann , who had to step in as player- coach in the second half of the season , the team had to be relegated immediately as the bottom of the table. In the following season 2008/09 the team was fourth in the 2nd Bundesliga South and placed Jennifer Ninaus, the top scorer in the league. Financially badly damaged, several top performers left the team, which had to relegate a year later as the penultimate. On the penultimate matchday, the team was unable to play at Werder Bremen due to a personnel shortage . On April 9, 2010, SG Wattenscheid announced that it would close the women's football department on June 30, 2010 for financial reasons. The women's soccer department of VfL Bochum took over the playing rights of SG Wattenscheid 09 and the Wattenscheid players were advised to join VfL Bochum.
