Lena Wermelt (born September 29, 1990 in Steinfurt ) is a German soccer player . The defender plays for the regional division Herford SV , until 2010 she also played in the U-20 national team .
Career
Lena Wermelt grew up in Horstmar , where she was motivated to play football by her neighbors. She began her career at Germania Horstmar and later moved to Westfalia Leer .
In the 2006/2007 season Wermelt played with FFC Heike Rheine for the first time in the Bundesliga , but was relegated. She then moved back to the Bundesliga for SG Wattenscheid 09 and was relegated with this team again.
For the 2008/09 season she stayed with the relegation club. She hoped to be able to develop her skill level through an improved position within the team so that she could become a regular player in the German national soccer team and take part in the 2010/2011 World Cup. The main motive for this, however, was the desire not to have to change residence and school again. For the 2009/10 season, however, she changed clubs and signed a two-year contract with FCR 2001 Duisburg.
After she had only played five times in the Bundesliga in the first season for Duisburg (four of which came on as a substitute), Wermelt moved to the newly promoted Bundesliga Herford SV after a year .
She played her first international match for a German national team on May 21, 2005. In the run-up to the 2010 World Cup in Germany , she was removed from the squad of the U-20 national team .
